    backlit buttons!

    WOOHOO

    i just won this on ebay:



    ok, well maybe not all that...but if you look closely at the bottom you'll see a detatchable face with a bunch of buttons and a volume knob. i'm going to mold that into a flat plate, paint it black to match the rest of the console and mount it in the area where my dvd-rom is. Then i'm going to map the buttons to the appropriate functions in centrafuse...ta daa...i'll finally have high-quality, back lit buttons!

    The reason why i'm doing this is i found the one downfall of my touchscreen is that i have to look down to change tracks or adjust the volume. now that i'll have some tactile buttons, i can scan through tracks and select different functions without taking my eyes off the road! KICK A$$!!!!

    actually simpler then that. since i'm using centrafuse and almost everyfunction in it is hot-keyable, i'm going to wire the buttons to an ipac2 keyboard emulator. for the volume knob, i am going to take the guts out and replace it with a phidgets usb rotary encoder.

    I just got the faceplate you can have the parts that i hack off and dont use

    I wish i were better at silk screening. for a lack of a better work, that'd be tight if i could print labels below the buttons too

    why dont you just change it to a rotary encoder hooked to the scroll wheel part of a mouse, itd be cheaper than buying a phidget encoder

    already have the phidget. plus my roommate's going to help me write a vb program that will allow me to adjust the volume with it, then apon clicking it i'll be able to use it as a scroll wheel (to scroll through playlists) then at an idle state it will reset to volume control
