I am going to take your suggestion to try and move the buttons on the right side. It will give me a little more room on the back of the mount for the display driver board as well as more room for the VGA connector.
My sample USB phidgets encoder finally arrived yesterday. This is my first time experimenting with phidgets and I have managed to get it to work with a simple visual basic code and I am still trying to figure out what would be the best way to use it for controlling volume and navigation functions. If anyone has any suggestions for the easiest way to make it work please let me know.

The Grand Prix mount a different 1 1/2 din that I have installed a prototype in my Grand Prix. You loose about 1/4 of the screen due to the shorter height.

You are right. 1 1/2 din is about 30mm short. I need to go measure the actual opening. If you can make a 1 1/2 din to fix a lilliput, I will be a very happy person. I am not interested in a phidgets version, all I really want is the IR and power button. Can we see pics of the Grand Prix Proto? Please keep us informed.

I was I started doing this when I was still in highschool and had access to a CNC mill. It would make life so much easier.

I think just having the ir, power and a phigets knob for volume/scrolling through songs, would be great

I redesigned the buttons and moved them to the right of the screen. They are now illuminated around the outside of the buttons. The phidgets encoder is a tight fit and I have to do some more changes to make it fit properly. I am going to make a mount with just the power indicator and 5 buttons tomorrow.
