Sweet, any idea what the best way to switch between GPS as XM? It takes me like 6 clicks... could you make a button on the satradio skin that brings up XM in frodoplayer? I guess we might have to wait til frodo integrates the new XM code...

There's room but it just doesn't look right, too cramped and not OEM like. That's why I never bothered (and never will).

If you actually measured the "opening" then there isnt room, you have to go in and down below the opening. And I prefer a merge of function and design rather than sacrificing function for an "oem look." that looks plain and most people wouldnt know the difference anyways, the people that have seen mine thought I hooked into the existing nav screen.

Having the drive in the dash IS more OEM than not having one..
Where is your optical drive? is it in an "OEM" location? I doubt it. I like to be able to swap dvd's or CD's while i drive, like any OEM setup.

By "OEM" I mean that it looks like it came from the factory like that. No one in their right mind would think yours came from the factory like that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting down your work. It came out pretty good, but I like it to look factory.

And to answer your question, my optical drive was in the ITX case. If I wanted to play a CD, there was a aftermarket radio i the glove.

My whole point of putting a computer in my car is because you cant get it from the factory, and unless you work at bmw, or drive a bmw, you wouldnt know it wasnt supposed to look like that, unless you really examine it, or you have worked on putting something in the e46 opening... which most people do not fall into that category.

I guess we had different goals with the carputer... I wanted it to do as much as possible with integrating with the existing "look" of the car. I dont mind if it looks custom... as long as it looks good, and matches the factory look. Custom is cool in my world.

And I need to be able to play dvd's and access data CD's without getting in the trunk, and I didnt want to modify other parts of the car.

Well I think the debate on what looks more OEM or not is kind of tired Anyone familiar with E46's would know immediately that neither were OEM. Still, putting the optical drive there is an interesting touch. I had wanted to do that myself but there just wasn't enough room to do it and get the aesthetics I wanted. All in all, I have found that I almost never use the drive anyway except when I have the computer out of the car for upgrades and the like... I should have just installed it in the mini-itx case probably!

That's exactly what I wanted to say! Thanks Gork.
I wasn't trying to put down your work RiXst3r. Everyone has a different opinion and different tastes.

I guess I took that wrong?, you should have stated that it was your own opinion of what you would want in your car, not what other people may want, or need... instead of just saying that my dash peice "doesn't look right"

It looks right to me, and to anyone who has been in my car... I need a DVD drive up front, so this was my best option, and it cost me ~25 bucks... can't beat that.

I can see why you would be bias to your bezel, thats fine, its nice too, I just can afford it, and I need a dvd drive.

Yeah I should have worded it better and I apologize. Of course everyone has different opinions on how something should look or what they prefer. I would like to have an optical slot but it wouldn't look the way I would want it to look.

If I were you though, I'd make the drive's bezel a permanent part of your bezel so you would just have a slot visible.
