why don't you just use a powered USB hub instead of that pci USB card.
just a thought... good luck
This is the part that I suck at. The concept seems simple -- attach the parts to the case. I think I may want to mount the motherboard and PSU on to a piece of plastic or wood, and then attach the piece of wood to the case using velcro. This will make it easily removable and I won't have to destroy the case (maybe I want to change the hardware in the future).
I don't know. If I cut a piece of wood it will surely look ugly. I can't cut a piece of plastic, cause I don't have any plastic. I'd have to go to the glass shop or something for some plexi.
Any opinions on how to secure my hardware to the case?

I havent run in to any problems with my carputer that doesn't have any case. Although one thing to think about if you don't have any case is EMI sheilding so your FM reception doesn't crap out.Originally Posted by TimW

Second that! Why have a bunch of PCI junk hanging off the PC subject to vibration and possibly freezing the computer when you can just use a powered hub? At a minimum, lose the double riser card and plug the USB PCI card directly into the PCI slot.Originally Posted by acura cl
Use screws and bolts to mount the stuff to the case. Get a matched set at the hardware store and use standoffs to mount the mobo. If you change hardware, well, unbolt the stuff and put the new stuff on. Hopefully you won't have to do that for awhile.
By the way, I don't have a case either and it works fine although the EMI was too much to put my GPS unit in the vicinity of the computer.

You know, that is pretty silly of me. Obviously the riser card isn't secured properly, I should have considered vibrations should shake it loose. I will remove it and just use the USB card. I'm using that rather than a powered usb hub because it's easier and it was free, and I have a free PCI slot anyways.
WTF is EMI shielding?
I still don't have an idea yet of how to secure the mobo to something, then secure that something to the case...
