The LED tails are done....I think

Well, I managed to build a set for the '03 sunfire. Not sure if I'm done yet or not. I might try to add a few more diodes here and there.

Right now I'm running 32 10mm 18,000 MCD diodes in each light. If I didn't have tinted lenses they would be bright as *&#@
I think they may be a little dim during the day but I have had the pOlice behind me without any trouble.

    Here are the pics.......

Really nice look but I don't think it's legal here in Quebec

Correct. For it to be legal in Quebec, it would have to spell out "Arręt" with the LEDs.

I'm trying to make a set mounted in lexan right now. The lens on those would be clear with the led's lighting up red. The new set should be legal in Quebec....lots of new cars have them now.

How much did this all cost? Any special circuitry that you had to do?

Nothing special other that a 25w 8Ohm resistor to get the turn signals to work right. Total cost so far is about $40CAN

The next version will be upwards of $100CAN I think.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my tail lights

I bought mine at a local electronics shop. You can get them on ebay too but I like to know what I'm paying for first so I tested out 10, then I bought the rest.

The next set should have around 250 5mm leds per light if I can get the pattern made up right. That was the hardest part so far - my lights are curved both up/down and left/right so it takes some messing around to get it right.

    Good luck!!

I don't know of any electornics shops here that have any LEDs remotely that bright. The brightest they had was like 8000mcd... and they called those ultra bright
I guess ebay it is for me then
