    subaru legacy mounting problems

hey yall, I so rarely post on here becuase everyones so informative, but I've been searching for hours and am yet to find a good solution for my issue.

I am mounting a xenarc 700TSV in a modified cubby opening in a 2005 subaru legacy. For those of you who may not know what this interior looks like I will attach 2 pics, one of the interior stock, and another of my fiberglass'd modified cubby. I had a guy do my fiberglassing as I am not exactly skiled at it, and lack the patience for the little bit I do have.

at any rate, I THOUGHT he was going to mount the screen in this, but turns out all he did was the actual fiberlgassing, which is very good in my opinion, its exactly what I wanted. The problem is now, that theres no good way to mount this screen. There are signifigant size limitations between the air vents in that the factory xenarc platic cannot fit unless I dremel the sides past where the screen mounts from the factory. The guy that did my 'glassing said he would just silicone the screen in, but I really dont want to do that.

Any suggestions on how to mount this thing? I dont really have any fab. skills.

To answer the question since it might be coming ahead of time hehe, the air vents are mounted to the factory trim plate with screws yes.. but theres only 2 of them that can be used for this, the other 2 are in a bad location and I cannot forsee them moiunting to it. my plan thus far has been to mouint the screen in the dash and to leave the trim plate as exactly that.. a vanity trim plate that interfaces with the screen in no way.

Any help would be muc appreciated here as this is a very tight space for a 7" screen, subaru in 2006 has put a screen here, and I'm researching the part #s for its parts etc. as I type this the email is on its way to my parts guy, they use like a 6.5" screen in this space..

    Hi Darkfox,

I've seen your posts on legacy legacygt.com, I've been following your posts for a solution but I could'nt wait so I've hacked up my legacy gt bezel over the weekend.. I've started epoxying a frame for the LCD. See pics below... Still a lot of sanding to do

I did research ways to fit the lilliput LCD with its frame intact but I dont think it will fit as you mentioned.

If I do decide to mount the LCD with its frame intact then I'd probably cut some grooves in the air con vents to make it fit, As I dont think it will effect the airflow of the aircon that much. Additionally if I ever take the screen out I dont think it will be too hard to seal the air vents up.

I've actually just purchased a Xenarc and its on its way... So I'd rather cut up the air con vents then cutup the NEW Xenarc display hehe . Also my idea is to make my CarPC portable to my next new car if possible.

As you can see in the pics trying to locate the screen a little more in into the console as I want to reduce as much reflection as possible. Additionally I'm going to try and reuse that cubby bezel door as a sunshade and for security.
Its my first attempt at fabrication so not too sure it she will look 100%, But I'm learning as I go

I learned as I went as well. But I realized that moving the screen an inch or two further back really doesn't make a difference (in my experiences). I also realized that they further back you attempt to mount the screen, the further away from OEM look you get as well. But, just my opinion.

And for the issue above. Unless you fabricate some custom brackets for the LCD (some LGT users have attached "L" brackets from the air vents to push on the back of the screen), you are going to have to epoxy the screen in (which is what most do as well.

    Good luck!

If you're looking for someone to fabricate you a bezel, I'm thinking about doing some mass fabrication of them. It seems that many users on LegacyGT.com want CarPC's, but since there aren't pre-fabbed bezels available, no one gets to act on their desires.

sebberry great install. When i first checked the photo of your screen fitted I thought it was a standard Subaru part. Were you tempted to keep the standard door to hide the screen when not in use?

Weve all (Legacy owners) toyed with this idea, but there isnt enough room for the brackets to keep the door.
