Here is a write up on how to do it. http://www.overclockers.com/tips821/
I really don't see the point, but to each his own.
I just saw a pic of the new WD Raptor 150GB 10000RPM HDD, and they have a window in the drive so you can see the platter and arm while the drive is working, i thought this was a cool idea, and i was wondering if anyone else has attempted doing anything like this to their HDD
EDIT:
Sorry forgot a link

thanks for the link that should help... and the point of it is because it will look great when done properly, especially with a small led inside the drive

Woo!! careful with that dreamel... I will never risk a 10000 RPM HD like that. (maybe a old 40g 7200 and notice that I said maybe)
Thanatos.
woah... yea im not moding that new hdd just got the idea for a window from it, i have an 80gb 7200 rpm and a 30gb 5400 rpm drive that i will install windows of some sort on
edit: besides... that new drive costs about 349$

Hmmm .... maybe a use for the old 40Gig drives I have at work
Even if just for show lol
yea some people have been doing it for a while now...from what i've read, nobody recommends doing it to a drive you actually care about and store important data on, because anything from a speck of dust to a strand of hair getting in there can cause damage and data loss
hmm strange ive never see it around here, and i think ill risk ruining them for the potential visual gain i can get with it

couple of years ago, yoshi did that on the ill fated tech tv screensavers. He destroyed 4 drives just to do the window on one drive.

my old teacher for a computer technician analyst class did this back in '99. I saw it in '00, but he explained that he went through 4 drives before he got one to work as well. All in all....it really wasnt that cool.
