2000 Blazer pre carputer pictures and ideas

Here is what the dash looks like now.

I would love to mount a 7" or 8" Xenarc or Lilliput in the dash where the radio is now but I don't want to permanently modify my bezel unless I can find a replacement for cheap. I also don't want to eliminate my vents. My biggest concern is keeping everything clean. I had considered leaving the radio in the dash and mouning a screen externally to the right side of the bezel and have it hinged to fold in over the radio if I need to get into the glovebox or if the airbag deploys. As you can see I don't have much room to work with since I have a 1.5 Din slot to work with. My other thought was to mount the stereo in the glovebox or under the armrest in the center console and put an indash fold out 7" touch screen in its place. I would then need to use and under dash kit to mount the stereo in the glovebox, or cut the box under the armrest to mount the cd player in there. I like the glovebox idea better and it wouldn't be a permanent change.
If I mounted the CD Player in the glovebox, I would build the carputer in the center console area under the arm rest. It is at least 12 inches deep and there is plenty of room to work with.

Here is what the Center console below the Dash Looks like now:

Here is the Center Console under the armrest:

    And here is the Glovebox:

Here is the Under dash kit I want to use in the glovebox if it will fit:

Let me know what you think of my plan, if you have any suggestions please provide them. Criticism is welcomed as well, I have never done this before and am anxious to get started. I am going to use my laptop to start with, I bought a 7dbi Magnetic WiFi antenna to hook into my Avaya World Card Silver with the MC connector and I bought a Holux GR 213 USB PS2 GPS receiver to go with it. I already have Sirius and plan on buying the Sirius mod to go with my SIR-ALP1 I already have.

im not sure if that tape deck of urs works with the new headunit but what i saw someone do was move the headunit down there along with the ac controls and then they fabricated the screen into the dash... u can just move ur headunit and get a flipout screen we used to have a 98 blazer same dash

The tape deck doesn't work with an aftermarket radio. I had considered fabricating all of that into the center console but that is a huge modification and I will probably be getting a new vehicle in the next couple years and don't want to have to replace the console if I sell the truck.

I bought a new Dash Bezel for my blazer. It is from a 2002 Blazer and is double din in size. The Bezel will be a perfect match. My brother is an Installer for a local Car Stereo shop and said that everything should match up and the dash behind the bezel rarely changes between model years unless they make a ton of changes. Seeing as how the 2002 comes both 1.5 Din and Double Din, I figured it should fit perfect. I will then get an humount from www.humount.com and mount a 700TSV to it.

I will then try and mount the computer and cd rom in the center console where the tape deck is now. I will have to buy a new black plastic piece so I can keep the stock one un damaged.

Here is a picture of what someone else has done:
