This is what my dash looked like this morning. Sorry that the dash is upside down on the desk.
The center opening is where my HVAC controls were. I'll be moving them down to where the cubby hole is.
Hi guys,
This is day one of my build and I made GREAT progress today. I'll post a picture in a little bit. I'm going to hot glue the LCD in place temporarily for my photos.
When you recess your screen do you normally leave the cover on the back of the LCD? I have an 8" Lilli.
Is it necessary to put something under the bottom wood shelf (in the back) of the recessed frame that the LCD sits on?
How do you guys finish the inside of the wood? Do you just prime it and paint it or is it necessay to wipe glaze on the inside before priming?

This is the frame from the side. It's cut top and bottom with a 10 degree angle so that the screen angles up to cut down on glare.

This is my LCD mounted temporarily in the dash with hot glue.
I spent several hours enlarging the hole from the cubby hole so that it would hold the relocated HVAC controls. I used a bench top spindle sander to enlarge the opening. I found that a dremel was way too hard to use. The dremel would get away from me at times. Also, the dremel bit is so small that you can't really make straight lines with it. It was critical to me that the HVAC controls fit tight and look as factory as possible.
