Hey, I like the work your doing! I too put an M10000 in the dash and (as others told me) I'm having some cooling problems. I installed MBM5 to monitor the CPU temp (which works great) but have not figured out how to keep it cool... I'm getting some temporary relief from a hole I drilled in the A/C vent directly behind the box... but I looking for a better plan.

I have not had any type of cooling problems as of yet. I have a LOT of space in my dash though. We had a few 100+ days here in michigan last week and the carPC fared just fine through it all. Even the one day when my windows were up and it was like 120 degrees when I got back in the car the PC still ran a good as ever. How did you install yours? What materials? The reason I use .063" aluminum is not only because of its strength but also because of its thermal properties. Aluminum is VERY effective at heat transfer. It acts like a heat sink to draw heat away from componets.

you have a good point about the aluminum - I used steel. I figured a case fan pulling air from the front would do it... but I'm not sure now. The system not booting-up or running would only be a sign it might be too late.
According to VIA, the M10000 should not operating above 50C (122F). See www.via.com spec sheet for details. This is insanely low to try and maintain in a car! I started using MBM5 and found to typically is at 70C (158F) and can hit temps as high as 82C (180F).
It would be good to know if aluminum really makes that much of a difference... would you be interested in trying the same MotherBoard Monitor software and posting your temps?

Checked out your install, nice work! Looks like you had to do some hella fabbin to get the PC in there. Your box looks completly enclosed, maybe thats where your heat issue is coming form. My box is not enclosed and the only fan is the CPU fan which is quite tiny. I was actually thinking about adding another fan but its not really necessary. You could always go the water cooling route if you really want low temps. .

Got my case today!! It looks REALLY REALLY good. Just gotta get some rubber washers for the HD mounting plate and start putting the pieces together. I'll take some pics when it looks more like a PC and less like a million pieces..
