Hey blk02si, it's been a while since I've checked in on your install. Always a work in progress, huh? Me Too! Sorry to hear about your screen. The Super I bought just after seeing your install is still going strong. I'm extremely interested in your Flash OS. The case I'm getting, M300, comes with a flash reader so I was checking around to see what experiences people were having with that and came across the same thread that got me going about a year ago!
Also, how is your custom plate coming for the screen in the OEM dash with the cut outs for volume and USB? I didn't see it posted but I did skip through your thread pretty quickly. I'm going to put a couple USB ports in the center console. I was also thinking of putting a keyed electrical switch in there, kinda like a valet switch. I've had the Mustang twice at Ford and each time they mess with the stereo.
I'll post some pics of my current 05 install when I get a chance. I've spent most of the time working on the front ends or the subwoofer/amp mount behind the rear seat. That's taken a huge amount of resources but I think it came out well overall. It's good enough that I've disconnected the front subs and just run on the two Directed 10's. Keep us posted on your install and I'll keep track of all the the CARPC stuff I've bought after seeing your install.
Hey Mike nice to hear from you! Im still working on the piece for the dash but I will post pics soon. Again this part is a bolt in so I wont be modifying any OEM parts.
The super screen did not fail in my build, it was going strong the day I pulled it out. I just had a new xenarc laying around so I decided to swap them out. I already resold the working super screen to my stepbro who im helping do a WRX build.
The Flash OS was def a challenge! This took longer than anything ive done yet but now that I know what im doing with the flash cards it will be easy for future builds. I think the future of PC's is going to be solid state OS anyway. No writes mean no viruses ever
Im going to head over to your thread and see if you have any more pics from your work in progress.
I'm looking foward to seeing how your monitor mont comes out. I thought about making one but didn't think it could look as stock as the Metra kit. I get so many compliments on the monitor install. My new case should be in either tomorrow or Saturday so I'll take pics of that and probably start a new fresh thread on my 05 stang install, giving much props to yours ofcourse.
Here's some shots of the sub/amp box and the box I had originally built for the PC. I'm going to mount the new case on the under side of the rear deck whcih for the most part is out of sight. Hopefully the power supply and hard drive will fit in there witht he sound card. It's going to be tight. I'm going to start working on the flash setup too. I had no idea that Compact Flash had gotten that fast. My camera still has a 12x 128MB flash card so I hadn't given that method much thought until looking around the forums some more. It might be the answer to my space problems.
The amp/sub box is made of 3/4" MDF, crappy matieral to work with, and has a single 1.1 cubic foot volume for the two 10" speakers. The amp is a 4+1 channel monster also from Directed. It's friggin huge! I took several weeks of measuring and decisions on where it was going to go and how I was going to mount it. As it is now, it's perfectly vertical behind the rear seats. It's about 3 inches above the plate that seperates the front and rear halves of the box. And the way the heatsink over hangs the amp mounts will give it a floaring appearence. I'm going to give it a blue glow behind the amp and around the subs on the trunk side. Once everything is working well, it will be removed, measured, saved in CAD, and rebuilt with better material.
Nice work Mike, my sub is still somewhat, well SUBpar compared to yours. I would like to do something similar to your setup. Looks hella clean, props on the fab work.
Im glad I have this holiday weekend off work. Im finally going to get this Hot new setup back in my dash!
Quick note re: your iso of the stripped OS.
The boot time is craploads faster than it was before. Not quite a 12 second boot, but it's coming in at about 20 seconds for a cold boot to music. That's booting into windows directly, but when I boot into the front end shell maybe that will take a couple of seconds off. I also have some bios tweaking to do.
P.S. If anyone wants a copy of this iso, pm me for a link.
I installed my carpc into my pet Kangaroo, mate.
