what is a "night map" and what software has that feature? all front ends with gps?

Night Maps just refer to the color scheme of the GPS application. Generally speaking the night maps have a high contrast scheme with a black background so that the screen is not bright and distracting at night. The night maps that you are quoting in particular are from mappoint/streets and trips. I use iGuidance now and have the day / night maps switch automatically depending on the time of day.

Well i finally figured out how to resume my RR settings on my read only install. I've moved the .ini files to my media drive which is read/write. I pointed RR to them with RRconfig. Works great! The entire RR program is read only but the ini's can now be updated and stay that way during a shutdown/reboot.

Got my case all butchered up and mounted all my parts inside. Case is really nice BTW. So I have glued my xenarc in a double din enclosure before but I needed to move it to another one because it had some scratches on it and I tried to mount a dvd drive and took it out so it has a hole. Anyway I had the same problem you had with the glue. I got the same 4000lb epoxy you got and reglued it to the new enclosure. The glue cured overnight and seems really strong only problem is that it cracked my screen....

I cracked my 400$ xenarc screen! I tried to power it on I get nothing... So before I left for work I test it out and it seems like my screen is dead

I think the curing of the glue put to much stress on the screen in all directions and cracked it. It might just be the touch screen but the back light doesn't even turn on. So from that I think Im hosed and I will be buying a new screen. Prob get the transflexive lilliput.

Ouch that hurts! Did you crack it trying to remove it from the epoxy or you let the wet epoxy set and came back later and the glue had cracked it? Either way sorry to hear about the xenarc! My epoxy worked good for me no cracks and I used a whole syringe of "plastic fusion' brand epoxy.

Hope you get the trans-reflective screen, that thing is nice!!

The epoxy (although very durable and rugged) is really the messy part of this build. Josh Overcash, from these forums and another owner of my aluminum chassis, machined a part at his work to clean things up a bit. I know he is using the lilli so you may want to contact him about this part as it is lilli specific. I am not sure if he plans on making more of these parts or a price but maybe he will ring in and let us know. Any future builds I do I will be going this route. It just adds another level of engineering that looks right at home with the bolt in theme. Great work BTW, here is pics of Josh's part.

need to play with it more tonight but etheirway if its just the TS Ill break it getting the glue off Im hosed...

Why do I need the bracket for the lilli can't I just cut up the case liek I did with the xenarc?

you sure can use the lilli and cut the housing. This new part Josh made seems like a better solution to me though.

Thanks for posting that up Joe. I have a few spare units that I will be selling, and I might make them in mass quantitys in the future. It depends on the demand for the parts once I put out some info on it. (They can be had Plain/Polished/or Anodized.)

I think it just makes for a clean simply install when combined with your case its like that parts were made for the cars!

I will be posting up a build progress thread when I get back from vacation this week with more info on all my parts and the lcd bezel for people.

If you already have a double DIN or nearly a double DIN opening in your dash, what does the Metra kit do for you?

You take your screen out of it's original enclosure and epoxy it to the Metra faceplate (see post #320 above). Then you screw it in to your dash and put the panel back on (see post #321). Voila, clean looking install with minimal work.

The alternative is to rig the screen up to the dash somehow then take the dash panel and bondo/fiberglass/whatever it to try and get the same look. Much more time consuming and not everyone has the equipment and skills/patience to do so. Although it does give you more choices for the end look.
