Memphis is right on. The metra kit keeps the install at a minimal of labor. Also it is then like an OEM unit where it can be unbolted like the original radio. No changes need to be made to the actual vehicle or vehicle trim for mounting the kit.
Custom fabricating your car or car's trim to accept an LCD is a lengthly involved process and is 10x the work of just modifying the LCD screen to fit in this mass produced trim.

Ok, I see now. What confused me is mine is a Toyota and apparently it is not a full double DIN. It is only 3.96" tall and the LCD even completely disassembled will not fit in the existing hole, so a Metra kit will not fit either, since you can't create space. The Metra kits must be designed for people that have extra space that needs to be covered up when they change radios, right?
The metra kit that is shown and being used in this thread is specific for 2005+ ford vehicles. Metra makes all kinds of trim kits for different cars so your best bet would be to check with crutchfield or circuit city to see if a toyota specific kit is made even though I guess this wont help much as you stated the opening does not fit the DD standard.
You can always custom fabricate the trim to make a bolt in piece for your dash. Fabricating the trim would be more work in terms of engineering since you need to have mechanical fastening but still less work that fabricating a whole new dash panel.

Not if you get the proper Metra kit #. It was not availible when Joe started his project.... I have the double din with no bar in the middle from metra, its the one I used in the pictures I sent you last night. The P/N is 95-5812 both CC and Crutchfeild carry it.

This is true, I bought one of the early metra kits that actually was labeled for a F150. The newer versions do not have that little bar. That other kit posted looks pretty nice too wonder what the price is?
I am considering selling my HQCT module. It seemed the biggest deal to me to have FM but now that I have it and the novelty is over I noticed that I am never using it. Im always on an mp3 or a video that is on the hard drive. Its been about a month now and it just seems like FM has a lot of commercials so I just stopped using it. Anyway I would sell it with all the cabling necessary to hook it up. OEM antenna adaptor, CD_IN cable and USB>USB header cable(handmade by me) The module is still perfect and its been running Luc's software build 49 since it went into duty. The next time I pull the PC I am going to dismount the HQCT and get her ready for a new home.

Hello all this is my first post and I just wanted to thank Joe aka "blk02si" for taking my order for a chassis and screen mount (Xenarc 7" 5 wire). I can't wait to get started on this carpc this is my new hobby.
