Measure your OEM chassis to be sure. You'll want to take a peek in the dash if you're going to do a bolt it.

    External LCD buttons added

In the spirit of hardware I decided to tackle a small Sunday project.

My LCD controller is inside the chassis which is behind my dash, which are where the 5 buttons to control power, sync, brightness, etc are located. I have never really used them since the monitor auto-powers on so they lie unused for some time.

With the temp here in MI at about 5 degrees F, yes 27 degrees below freezing, I realized that the monitor had "forgotten" it horizontal sync and was displaying halfway off the screen. I'm going to attribute this to the extreme cold as this is the first time i've ever seen the xenarc do that. Anyway its usually just hit a couple buttons to Auto-Adjust the display and you're back in business. That is, if those buttons are not buried

So, since I pulled out the PC today to hit those couple buttons I decided to add an interface so I can access those buttons with the carPC completely installed as it usually is. I pondered for awhile and came up with quite a few different ideas. I decided I wanted to do it cheap, like $10 cheap so I thought about it some more. One more requirement important to me was visually pleasing. I ended up buying a male/female rs232 plug and small PCB from radio shack, total cost $8.26. I had 22 guage wire in the computer toolbox. Here is what transpired after a few hours. Now I can just plug in the small board I made and have my LCD buttons, once finished adjusting I just unplug the "button key" and am just left with a techie looking serial port on my dash

I only needed to run six wires for the 5 buttons, they were all ground referenced so it made it quite easy. Final product works flawless and snaps/unsnaps into place.

So that is the story of my $10 sunday mod.

(Oh yeah had time to add about 10 gigs of new media while the new parts were under construction)

wow joe ... ur stuff never ceases to amaze me ... couple of questions ... 1. does the hard drive mount come with my chasis you are building? 2. any interest in fabbing up some sort of buttons for my dash since its identical to yours??? i have the same three empty spaces and would maybe like some hot keys there, and possibly a volume knob ... not sure if its possible or your willing but i thought it was worth a shot to ask

    thanks

His name is JOvercash on the forums, Josh is his first name.

He has all the documentation and knowledge about interfacing the shaker system.

I didn't order the shaker system since I knew all the OEM stuff was coming out anyway.
