The links posted are a very good resource to start reading since those are basic questions about the hobby. Don't be afraid to ask more questions though! I take it you are considering a bolt in setup similar to mine shown here in this thread.

I've been getting more responses about the availability of the chassis unit so I though I would post this pic, taken yesterday. I am not bending them yet in case I have a request for a custom size, not many cars seem to be true double din. I will have 6 available, .063" aluminum, same as all the others I have built.

thanks i definitly plan on using your idea for the indash pc, i have a 2001 accord with a double din so i think i will be ok, my only set back right now is the sound to the speakers i'll need to add another amp for my door and rear speakers and of course i will require the mount to toss everything in, the rest should not be very difficult but sounds like alot of fun!

wish I had industrial cutting tools... lucky!

Luckily, I do have a finite limit of laptops at my disposal that I sell. So that at least affords me the hobby.

Speaking of, Xenarc 702TSV VGA Touchscreen Monitor is the pick of the day. WOOT!

    Nice find!

Since I have started a computer business I am manufacturing a clone of my system. Its not going to be exactly the same but very similar. Differences will be larger flash memory, M3-atx, and a couple other small details. I got the chassis and trim kit done tonight. After its done I am going to sell it. I would like to start making them for a living.

I will determine the price after it is completed. I have a spreadsheet going to track my cost associated with building it, after its done I can see what the parts cost then I will just add a nominal charge for the time it took for me to assemble it. The assembly time is getting less and less as I make more

I am probably going to stick with the M10000 mother board, that way my OS image can be ghosted to it, however Since the new model will have at least 8gb of flash, I am considering developing another version of XPE with more features, wireless networking coming in at the top. If I decide to go this route I want to try the Intel little valley mobo.

I can make systems for other cars, its just a matter of using different trim. Since this will be my first production unit I am sticking with what I know, Ford. This trim fits virtually all new ford vehicles.

    Fusion 06-08
    F-150 04-08/F-250 05-08/F-350 05-08/F-450 05-08/F-550 05-08
    Explorer 06-08
    Freestyle 05-08
    Freestar 05-06
    Mustang 05-08
    Focus 05-08
    Lincoln Mark LT 05-08
    Mercury Milan 06-08/Monterey 05-06/Mountaineer 06-08

Here is a pic of the chassis and trim assembly so far. The blue is just protective wrapping on the white .063" aluminum.

Just wait until the guts are in it, I am going to use everything I've learned over the last 3 years on this model.

That's awesome BLK! I can't wait to get back to working on my carpc (currently in a little sandbox known as Iraq). I'm still in the designing phase and I'm thinking about going your route vs an exterior mounted computer. Would you dabble in a wrankger JK? The trim is slightly different. The opening is the right height for double din, but wider. The trim kit fits only on the sides so it would make it difficult to mount the bezel inside the trim. Have you or anyone else figured out how to get around this obstacle?

I've read your entire post. I definitely want to go the same route as you did with the CF hard drive. I'll probably end up going with dual monitors as well. One will be located in the sound bar for the kids to watch movies. I still have a lot of reading!!

Have you considered the PicoITX of instead of the M10000?
