I just laid out the MOBO on cardboard and marked the holes, then trnasfered to the metal.
WTF, BLK? I buy a chassi, and now they are all "new and improved"? sokay, still good quality stuff.
My wife wanted to hang out tonight, but the friendly UPS guy delivered the new screen. So I've been tearing it down and putting it back together to see how it ticks.
Just a couple of months now...
Not sure if there is one already, but if anyone is interested, I can document the teardown of this screen.
Im not sure the new is all that improved from the old, just a little different. Perhaps a bit flashy but in no way is it more functional than the standard chassis I've been making for a couple years now.
Make sure to pay that girl some attention! My wife is funny, if she walks into the room and I have a touch screen in a million pieces she just says "I won't ask..." and comes back later.
THe fact that this touchscreen is a bit wider, and the board isn't square is rather irritating.
BLK, where did you end up mounting your HD radio and GPS receiver? I was looking at on-dash, but I'd rather keep it clean. Or getting a fin and mounting to the roof.
@anyone: HOW can I shorten the 702 TSV cable? I don't need 5 feet of cable, and I can tie it off, but I'd rather just have a short, clean cable.
NM. some questing and I found my own answer.... I really am not looking forward to sautering.
hey, first off id like to say AWESOME work and iv been following this thread since you first started:peace:
I was wondering if you could by any chance ship to South Africa? im looking for the exact model in post #567.
PLZ can you pm me a price n stuff?
blk02si do you have a peliminary price? a friend with a shelby gt saw my car comp and wanted one but does not have the time to build one, i told him about how you are planing on making a turn key solution based on your original, also on the hard drive i would think about just using a laptop hd you lose any advantage over standard flash when using a microdrive plus the laptop hd are a lot faster even more so with sata now
Hey guys just got back from Chicago, went there with my wife for the weekend.
@Rudels, PM sent.
@Xargon, I am aiming for a price between $1200 and $1400 for the complete RTR solution. I need a bit more time to complete the cost analysis and define a set price, however, I am confident I can hit those marks.
I'm going to end up using a Sandisk compact flash instead of the Seagate. I was just informed they are on back order anyways, so I'm not sure when I will be getting it. I do want to try it out but I agree it has limitations that can be solved by using a laptop drive, yet possesses none of the positive traits that a SSD does.
ya they are great for ipods and applications that require small size and read/write longevity
but the one i had was actually slower then most cf cards, and because your going to use ewf anyway a cf card is the way to go.
also is it just going to be the comp or will you set up people with sirius and/or Hdradio too? are you going to use a small amp that will fit in the comps case or will it be up the the end user to figure those details out?
The unit will include all HD radio hardware and be configured to tune all HD content. sirius and/or XM will not be included as these are subscription based. If an end user wanted to add it in, this could be done, just have to add in the hardware cost.
The PC will have line level output and it will be up to the user to setup the rest of the audio system.
The first completed unit will most likely be installed, by me, locally on a ford automobile. I have a local connection who is interested in purchasing a unit and doing the install for him.
Check the LCD forum . . .
