    Excellent work

For the motorized method, you might want to just try a usb powered/controlled phidget (link below). The usb controlled aspect will open the doors for the Front End developers and skinners to program control of the slider.

If you really want to get fancy, you could probably rig it so the dvd drive comes out while the monitor folds down.

You might want to develop another version that doesn't include the mobo capability integrated. A lot of us have a great deal of cabling coming out of those things, and like to stick to the trunk for space and heat concerns.

That being said, I would be very interested in a shallow 2 din motorized version that just has the monitor (preferrably Xenarc) & DVD drive capability!!!

    Thanks!

my only problem is that it "opens" at the bottom, and my double DIN opening is very close to my shifter. I don't want to have to put the car in reverse, just to put a new disk in. maybe you could either give us a distance that it moves, or have it move the top out. Also, if you open the drive, and use the drive's ejection solenoid or motor signal to trigger the motorized screen, it would work.

    ditto alpha_maverick.
As much as I would like everything up there in my dash, I would be worried about heat. Plus my Protege5 has a fairly shallow area behind the dash. The carpc just might not fit.
My ideal version would hold a Xenarc with a slot load dvd drive behind. Motorized would be sweet, but I would rather have one sooner than wait an extra year for the motorized version to be available.
On the assumption he's going commercial with this anyways. So what's the word jetkit? Are you willing to at least post/sell the plans if you're not going to commercialize it?
I can get these made for fairly cheap. I would love to get this in my car asap!

Along with everyone else, i say, WOW. I too would be interested in a non mb/hd version; since along with others here, I have a larger system setup to go under the passenger seat. I custom fabbed a bezel for my maxima, but will soon be selling the maxima and getting a 4runner and this look slike it would be exactly what I'm wanting for that screen tilt. I don't want to be the one to suggest a price-point, but I'd certainly pay $150-250 for something like this.

    great design skills!

for motorizing, the phidgets is an interesting idea. a simple servo would have more than enough juice to open that up!

the double din pickin's have been slim up til now...

Jetkit, are you thinking of doing variable degrees for the lcd's angle? Possible if you did use that phidget servo you could have it programmed to slide up and down and preset degrees, and then the final "open for eject" or "completely closed", and as someone else suggested when you hit eject in your music player it would auto move the lcd down to the eject mode; not sure if you'd need some sort of software based app to close the screen or if it could close once the tray has been closed, or if there is a physical button on the inside of the whole housing that would move it back to closed position; you may would have to have a button on the outside and inside that did all of the opening and closing duties.

I'm serious, if this can work in say a toyota 4runner 01-02, and can work with xenarc as well as lilliput, then i'd easily pay you 200$ for that functionality.

    I guess that's why he's not replying.

This sucks, I really want an enclosure like this!

Apologies in advance for stating the obvious, or talking without doing, but... There are certainly enough examples of fixed double-DIN enclosures, like the Mechatroniks kit or blk02si's work. Anybody tried remounting the LCD bezel of one of these on some sort of sliding tracks?

It would also be nice if the screen folded enough to leave 2" of clearance, to fit a Mac Mini or a MiniPC through.
