ok, so its been remade.
its taking shape nicely now, and after a test fit, fits perfectly!
here we go.
lots of sanding and P38'ing to come!
Just been working on my mates clio, probably my most ambitions attempt at fabrication to date!
How it starts:
Now he wanted a stealth install, something that wouldnt stand out, so putting it out in the open in the waste of space are on the left of the dash clocks was out of the question.....
OR WAS IT?!
I had this mad insane down right crazy idea of REMAKING that whole hood that goes over his dash clocks, extending it but about a foot and a half to the left to cover over the useless area, and mount the screen under the hood.
It looked good in concept, (in my head), so i thought fook it and took a jigsaw to his dash - he was scared by this point as i hadnt actually completely let him in on what my plan was.
trust is great isnt it?
now, did it work?
ALMOST! this is how it finished - *was dark by then*
I forgot the measure twice, cut once rule! It was about 1cm short of where we wanted it. So we ripped it back out, all the fiberglass eventually gave way to the repetitive hammer blows and we were back with the dash as started (except the side had been cut...)
how I got to where i did then....
I cant be assed ot explain so just look at the pictures.....
It has been remade, but without glass atm, so its being glassed tomorrow - and it FITS!
More tomorrow, as well as another i may post for a repair job some some guys dash im doing from ireland... He fooked it up, im cleaning up the mess.
looks good but it appears from that picture that both sides of the original cover are slanting towards the middle. Would look nicer if it was completely flat I think.
its cos its flexed in the middle (i.e. pressure on both outer sides) When the pressure is removed, it goes back to its normal shape and looks great.
Why didn't you use the dash as the mold?
looking good matey!
My install... check it out!
