Get the ABS gluesticks. I used 'em all the time at BB and CC. They're black.

Mix up a small batch of resin and hit the supports wherever they connect to the mold. When you wrap the enclosure, use 2" wide masking tape parallel to the direction of tension and tape the fleece to the back of the enclosure.

    Thanks for the tips.
Where can I buy ABS gluesticks? Lowes, Homedepot? You mention BestBuy and CircuitCity (iff BB and CC is what that mean), and I can buy it there (doesn't seem like a place I can buy gluesticks.)

I don't think you can buy glue sticks at BB and CC, however, in the bays they use them.

Perhaps if you're really nice one of the guys back there will give you one?

They are larger than your typical cheapo hot glue gun can take though.

We usually use a torch to heat it up and dab it all on the spot where we need it.

More expensive and much more permanent but not better. When the box is done, the bracing won't be doing much heavy lifting.

A heatgun does a great job of melting the gluesticks I'm talking about if you don't have a gun they'd fit in.

    Hi All,
I just wanted to say thanks to everybody for the great advice given in this
thread. I was hesitant to use fiberglass but recently decided to give it
a try. I used many of the tips found on these pages to build mine so I
thought I would share my pics in case they may help inspire someone
    to try it for themselves.
    Cheers

    MatrixPC,
    My advice for your earlier post: How do you reinforce the 2 parts;
After cutting the mold down to it's final shape I used a wire brush to clean the back edges (approx 4-5" down). I used a small paintbrush and applied resin to seal the edges. I then layed the top right over the edge so that it bonded to the fiberglass of the mold.

I used fiberglass cloth instead of matt to build mine though. Mainly because I thought it would provide a cleaner base to work with when I was at the store. I was told it would be less sanding in the end and can create tighter corners. I'm not sure how well that would work with the matt as most people here use. If you take your time and fiberglass it slowly down the back you’ll have hardly any sanding to do if any at the end. If you keep your layers going over the edge the same it will still fit perfect and you have a clean rolled edge that looks great and doesn't leak.

I'm now running a 10” Fosgate Punch stage 3 sub and I don't have any leaks at all. I've seen some installs where people have used screws to hold it together and then try to stick caulking or bondo on the inside with their fingers. It's messy and hard to do unless you have 90 degree angles. You can always build the box slightly larger than needed and use foam all around the edge. This will help seal the box and fill the extra volume you've created. If you carpet the box it won't be a problem, however if you plan to paint your box it's very hard to get a clean enough edge to look good in my opinion. At least for most first time builders like most of us here.

I did have to re-mount the sub a couple of times due to some leakage from where the sub itself mounts to the box. A quick bead of window caulk as suggested earlier and I haven't had any problems since. A quick tip about the smell; I sprayed the inside with primer when prepping for the finish and it really cut down the smell.

If you need supplies go to any boating supply store and pick up fiberglass and resin . Resin was close to half price in my area and it's the same thing (automotive/marine).

hey nubs what kind of car is that?

and nice job, im gonna be doing the same thing to my car (almost exactly the same, sub is gonna be on opposide side of the trunk, and im looking into the possibility of mounting the subs IN the rear seat.... like cut out foam and such, make a FG box to put in there and plexi over top this way if need be i can fold the seats down still and use them, but gotta look into this whole thing first and see if its possible) but i just got done usin one of the small things of resin and mat to play with basically and figure out howto use it effectively (and had a school speech about how to do something so that was my exucese ), and now with my FG box made i kinda know what its like to work with so i cant wait to start my sub box (prolly mid Oct or so)
