    Question for the Europeans

    I understand this is more of a logistical question than a technical question, so I apologize. For Europeans (especially Germans), hazardous/any chemical for that matter can be an issue to get your hands on. I am US military in Germany and would love to fiber, but I'm not sure where to start. I figured Praktiker will be my first bet, but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for brand/material/NAME wise. Can anyone help? If there are any rules about fiberglassing here as well, so I can avoid fines/etc., it would be much appreciated.

    cant get anytthing good through aafes?

    You will not have to pay fines for carrying fiberglas or chemicals connected with the work on fiberglass.

    But all your work has to stay inside your car. You must not design new grills or bumbers or stuff like that, this is very strictly prohibited. Otherwise your car might be confisciated and you will be forced to have it checked by the german "TÜV", a company that does all the admissions and licensing stuff connected with cars in Germany. This will be very expensive!

    On your interieur, you can build almost everything. But some points have to be regarded:

    1) No one must be hit, injured, threatened, endangered at any case by your work and all the changes you made on your car. Everything has to be strongly mounted (especially with regard to the enormous forces that occur in a crash!!).

    2) The driver must not be distracted by the things you build, design, change...

    3) Works on airbags are prohibited as well as changing the number of seatbelts installed in your car.

    You can go to the german "Baumarkt" (DIY centre), for example Praktiker as you already mentioned. There are others, for example Obi, Bauhaus, Hornbach.

    I'll take a wild guess that you have not been stationed in the military overseas...

    =^ ) AAFES is a joke overseas, even at the largest American community outside of the states, it sucks!

    I'm not sure if they could do this, but it's likely they would if they could. I'm just looking at doing the surround for an LCD, so...small quantity. If you CAN do interior work, but are fined for carrying Fiberglass, how does that work?

    How does this apply to LCD's? The driver can't be distracted, but at the same time, it's bound to happen. Stock navigation is cool, but not aftermarket? I'm curious how this would work for the US vehicle inspections. We have a mix of military and German civilians. Very commonly, the US will pass vehicles that the civilians won't, luck of your inspector I suppose.

    Do you have an LCD mounted?

    You got me wrong
    You aren't fined for carrying fiberglass, but you are fined for doing hazardous stuff on your car (as I listed above).

    It does apply to LCDs if you are caught on a highway watching Neo defeating Mr Smith
    You have to differenciate in the things shown on the screen. If you use a static frontend for your carpc software, then everything's fine. Navigation is moving slow, too, so a distraction isn't possible.
    But if you're using a visualisation or watching a movie while driving, you're screwed.

    Some additional words on light in cars:
    While the car is moving, there must not be any direct light going outside, no matter which colour. Indirect light's ok, but your car mustn't look like Santa's christmas tree.
    It is absolutely forbidden to have a white light that can be seen from behind. Also it is not allowed to have a blinking/flashing blue or orange light, no matter if the car's parking or moving!!

    I think the Laws are the same in most EU Countries (hence EU) as far as Ireland is concerned RE LCD's etc the Law is that you are not allowed have it in your Line of Sight with respect to the Road unless it is displaying car related information such as ODB2, Navigation or the Frontend as Radios are in all car, but shoud you have a Video / Games / Vis on there then your are in Trouble without Doubt,

    There are no Laws with respect to Fibreglass or Resin in Europe, you could carry 10litres with you all day with out trouble, why you would want to i don't know, but its the same for external mods and interior ones in Ireland, any that are not fixed down or do not turn off with the ignition off and are hardwired will fail you the respective national car test, additioanlly anything deamed dangerous will fail you, in Ireland Window tint, Factory or Aftermarket is not allowed or are those noisy exausts, period,
