After glassing it all, I just kind of trimmed the corners, not really caring about the rough spots.
bondo'd it, sanded, and right now I am on my second coat of bondo and I will sand again in like 20 minutes.
First timer here, not a virgin anymore though.
Started fabrication and stuff this afternoon and have made a lot of progress.
I got the dash from the junkyard, and I thought the screen would not work until I read the LCD's FAQ. w00t!
Look at the cool little sticks, yeah, I am poor.

Thats looking good, lets see more pics.
My fiberglass is cracking on the sides, I guess because I sanded it too close, and my bondo is bubbling up from underneath. I don't get it. Ill post some more pics when I get around to making it look better.
what kind of resin are you using? did you sand the plastic you are glassing to? just trying to shoot ideas out to find the cause of the issue for you, let us know how it turns out and what was the culprit
Bah, I have been kind of incapacitated for the last 2 days, I'll start working on it again tomorrow.
I started wetsanding it to make it smoother and get some of the powder holes out of the bondo, it looks a lot better but there are these little holes that I cant seen to fill without making them worse.
I am not sure what kind of resin I used, I did sand the glass. I figured out that the culprit was the wetsanding. Supposedly one is discouraged from wetsanding bondo for that exact reason, or at least that is what the guy at the store said. Who knows. Thanks for making me ask that question.what kind of resin are you using? did you sand the plastic you are glassing to? just trying to shoot ideas out to find the cause of the issue for you, let us know how it turns out and what was the culprit
you still having cracking issues? if not then the little holes can be covered with some spot/glazing putty.

Yes, I am having cracking issues: I sanded too far down and split it on the corner of the right hand side. Its no big deal. If this turns out a little busted thats fine with me, I am not anal retentive about all these details that some of the people are, but with the same token, I would like it to look the best that I can make it, and since you guys are the only one's I know who have done some of this and are the only ones I am asking for constructive criticism, I would appreciate any advice you have to offer.
I bought some glazing putty in a tube, not in the can with the hardener and it seems to be working well. I just finished putting on my first coat of the glaze and about to walk outside to start sanding it. I will post some pictures soon keeping ya'll updated.
Other than that hows it look?
did you only use one layer of mat over the wood?
the reason for it cracking would seem to be the joints you have made with the wood.
if they aren't real secure and extremely sturdy, when you start to flex the dash piece, it will crack on you.
especially if you only did one or two layers of mat.
it also looks like you worked too long with the bondo. It looks as if it started to kick but you still spread it on. This will cause the pinholes you mentioned, and will make sanding to get a smooth surface that much more difficult.
