    Fiberglass trunk lid- WIP

I started doing a custom fiberglass trunk lid to mount two 7 inch LCD's and a 5 1/4 component set. If anyone has some tips or suggestions as I'm going please do let me know!

This is my first time working with fiberglass btw.

    Taping the lid off:

    Original Lid Vs. Fiber Lid:

    Test Fitting:

    Plan:

After 3 layers and 7 inch bezels in place (waiting for speakers to come!)

    More progress pics to come!

I think the two screens is Really redundant. You'd be much better off with a single 15 or 17" LCD, otherwise it's a cool idea and project.

What would be the best way to power a 15 or 17? Don't they run off AC? Also wouldn't I have to get a VGA splitter to get video to it, unless it has a composite input... ?

Sounds interesting, but arn't you affraid that the lcds might break after repeatedly slaming the trunk?

LCDs run off of DC voltage, most require a power brick to convert household power into a useable form for them. It depends on the LCD, too. I just saw a 12v industrial 18" touchscreen go on ebay for around 155$. It had DVI/VGA/Svid/Composite inputs.

You might be better off with a VGA splitter, though. A nice 15" touchscreen cloning your main screen would make for one kick *** tailgate party setup.

I don't normally slam my trunk shut. I don't really see that being a problem. I can always put a thin layer of foam with holes to help cushion it a bit. Or just foam around the edges so heat doesnt get trapped.

So basically your saying I can lop off the converter part and just hook it up to a 12v line?

What I'm saying is that you can power them using DC voltage. If the monitor requires 12v input then yes, feed it regulated 12v (NOT unregulated car power!!!) and it'll dance and sing all you want.

Chances are most you find will be 19v or something entirely different.. A carnetix or other voltage regulator would work for this. Baring this, you could use a small inverter.

Sounds good. I will keep my eye out for a 12volt then. It would make life so much easier. I was trying not to run an inverter all together, which is why i said I'd go with the two 7 inchers.
