you could always built it out of acrylic sheet, thats what alot of people have done on this forum.

personally i would do it in Al. but thats up to you and your skill with working with it.

i made a case with acrylic. Its not perfect but certainly works fine. I just cut the pieces with a saw and used some Weld-On (bonds acrylic) and its solid, going on 4 years of use. The biggest problem is getting clean cuts.

well im off to make my own, probably out of aluminium, its just a ***** finding sheets of it that are big enough to make a case out of but thin enough to bend with out being too thin... sigh..... plus i got to make it so where i only have to unplug a few things instead of 7 or 8 cables, as it will be required to be removed and replaced frequently...

or i can just wait till i get a new car...

as for your case, what about coating the wood bits in fiberglass resin and laying mat over them? just make sure you have lots of ventalation.

If you use carbon, make sure that your PC isn't in the same room as the project when you're laying up. Carbon fiber is highlyconductive, and little "wisps" of it will get into everything when you start cutting. Before I do any CF work, I always set up a workstation in the middle of my empty garage, and power down anything electronic that I don't want to replace. I'll typically mop the floor when I am done just to make sure no stray fibers are around.

I learned this stuff a while back when I built a CF subwoofer enclosure. In addition to the above, I also learned that a PG MS2125 amplifier will survive driving 0 ohms. (and not blow the fuses...)

Since then, I will not do anything in CF that will house electronics.

If you can get ahold of prefab laminate, I say go for it. (Didn't think of that option when I wrote the first post.)

Also, CF is getting pretty hard to find in smaller quantities due to a worldwide shortage. Any CF fabrication I had planned is on hold until 2007 or so.
