you could probably get that painted for damn cheap at a shop.

If it's just black, you could probably have a shop slide it in on another black job, that's if it's simply black and not metallic.

Otherwise, it's going to look like crap compared to the rest of your bike. If you use spray paint, and spray clear, it's not going to shine nearly as much as the rest of the bike. It's also not going to be NEARLY as resilliant to the weather, sun, heat, and flexing.

I just had an entire upper fairing painted by a guy who has motorcycles in the national MC museum for $175.

I wouldn't think that would cost more than $50. Just save yourself the hastle, and the funny looks, and get it professionally done.

If the rest of the bike were spray painted, i'd say go for it, but it doesn't look like it is.

$10/can spraypaint. Pay someone to do it and it'll come out better and more than likely cheaper.

If your set on doing it yourself, there are plastic primers availible. Just go into your local auto store or paint shop and ask for plastic primer. It's normally clear. Then you can follow up with the acrylic enamel of your choice, and a clear coat by the same maker. But honestly I would do like has been suggested, find a shop to do it for you. If you don't have the right equipment for the job it will be a ***** to get a perfect finish.

You may already be planning this but if you decide to go spray can, go to an autobody supply store like Finishmasters and get the spray cans of automative paint from them. It will be the same paint you would get sprayed at a shop so you'll have a better chance of making it match qualitywise. Get the matching clear from them as well. Don't try to use a Walmart plastic enamel. And I second the plastic primer idea, the primer/prep work is the key to an acceptable paint job. (Experience is the key to a good paint job, nothing you can do about that )
