Mounting USB Ports in the dash?

I'd like to mount a couple ports in the dash for a flash drive and one extra one for whatever. Has anyone done this. I searched quite a bit but just got a bunch of other USB stuff. The only thing I've come up with is getting this:

pulling the ports out and using a couple USB Extenders.

these are for use with a usb header on a MB and fir into the backplane of the PC.
you could strip off the PCI riser paer and fab these for less money than the unit you have shown.

downside to ports is you would have to either bring usb cables for your portable device with you, or have extra cables in the car. Either solution seems kinda weak.

I think a retractable usb cable would be optimal.

i would do this, remove the pci slot cover from one of the above, cut off the end of the that goes onto the mobo, use some cat 5 to extend the cable to where ever your pc is, put the end back on, plug it into your mobo, cut the little holes where ever you want to mount the usb devices, screw it in and your done ... if you built your computer you may have a few of these headers layin' around!

    cheap and very clean!

    good luck!

If you have stuff plugged in there while driving won't your leg hit the plugs?
