if not drilling, would you consider cutting away a portion of the carpet to expose the metal underneath? I believe you could get a super secure hold if you just use the two halves of an industrial strength velcro. I imagine if you dyed or found velcro colored similar to your carpet, you could make a pretty stealthy swap of it by using the loop (read: fuzzy) side of the velcro in the spot where the carpet was. All you'd need then is a decent razor knife.

Velcro. 1 side with the fury side (soft side) is made up of loops. The other side (the spiky side) has small hooks that will grab onto the soft side. Some carpet is not looped and thus hasn't got the properites of velcro and in turn will not grab on and stick.

i see, ya cuz the carpet on the firewall, not bushy or anything, sticks but the reeally bushy carpet on the floor doesnt

I could cut the carpet i guess, its not like anyone would see it as the computer would be sitting on it

btw, ok so 3/4 of the comp is hidden, the other 1/4 is exposed, so if i have say 3 strips (on the hiddenpart toward the back) of industrial strength velcro, that would hold the comp right? (i have the small morex case at the mp3car store)

It's like how vxcarpc described it: it's "hook and loop" (Velcro being just a brand name). It doesn't matter if it's industrial strength or some weak strength; if the carpet is not made with loops to hook onto, it just won't stick.

Maybe place a piece of plywood under that area of the carpet, and then staple gun the mating velcro to it?
