Finishing Up the Trunk, Ideas needed!

OK, im getting to the point where Im looking to finish off the trunk looks of my car. Heres my situation, 98 camry, in the trunk I have subs, 2 custom amp racks and the carputer in the wheel well.

Those are the amp racks, they are held in mainly by L brackets. Thats where the carpet starts to get trickey.

Thats where the carputer access is, also the fans which need to breathe.

So heres where you come in. I need to design sometthing that will cover the floor that I can easily remove for access to the carputer.
My mom thought of just taking some light fabric and velcroing it to the floor, I think that will work for almost all of it but once it gets to the amp racks itll look pretty weird. Then I thought of making a form from some light wood or something and covering that in fabric. The problem there of course will be making the form. With all the little stuff in the corners etc.
So im asking you guys for help with what the hell to do. I want this to look good, but it also needs to be functional.
    Cheers

so basically, ur asking how to cover the floor?

    it already looks covered though..

but anyway, you can get the same type of carpet ur trunk has at some different shops, as at your local car audio shop, they might be able to get some for you, thats where i got mine (from my local car audio shop, not your local car audio shop, lol)

if carpet wont work for you, then i dont think anything will

why not just remove the amps, lay all new carpet, then put the amps back in? +_+

i replaced that peice of corrugated plastic/carpet with three pieces of MDF. The two on the sides are to be fixed, and the one in the middle comes up to access the spare tire. I imagine you could do something similar. I just spray mounted wal-mart brand trunk carpet to the boards prior to mounting my amp and then put it all back together. The beauty of that stuff besides the fact that it's only $8, is that it stretches to some degree, and you can blend two adjacent pieces almost seamlessly. If you're going to be at the meet next month I'll bring you some scraps you can play with.

I see what your saying, MDF may be a little thicker then what Id like to work with. Can I ask you for some more pics of your trunk?

you certainly can. I'll head over to the office and get my camera today. I suppose if you really wanted to thin it out, you could use sheet aluminum. Not terribly cost effective, but .060 is pretty thin. They also make 1/4" and 1/2" varieties of MDF, but you usually have to special order those. I'll post pics in a little bit.

    Okay, Pictures:

You can see my three panels... not terribly thick in the big picture. I got a shot there of the finger notch i made to make it easy to get under the panel to pull it out. The carpet conforms pretty nicely to the shape. The piece of carpet that you see on the amp rack is all one piece, so there are no visible seams there. likewise i was able to finish the other two panels even easier. The end result is access to my spare (or the PC in your case) and a pretty clean (imho) finish overall.

i was thinking a little more and was wondering if you could simply slice up the trunk covering that came with the car? you know that carpet stuff on top of the corrugated plastic or particle board?... just build hardpoints for the removable one to sit on.

    just a thought.

ahhh, now it makes sense, lol, i thought, it has carpet already, wth is he talking about

but as usual, gohybrid beat me, i was going to suggest raising the floor

its what i plan to do, with how i drive, i'd rather have a full size spare, than a half in the car im gonna get, so, to make sure it doesnt look stupid, and that i have a flat floor, im going to be building a fake floor, basically some mdf vertically raising the floor about 5-6" (dont have the car yet to measure properly), anyway, then the floor is flat, and i have my spare, and room under the floor for my amps/carpc!

anyway, doesnt sound like u have the 5-6" to spare, anyway, if you can, just lay a layer or 2 of mdf, and make a hinged surface under some carpet for access to the carpc?
