A bit hard to tell from pictures really, but from what I can see you'll have a very tough time getting an exact match to the trim bezel texture wise, BUT in my opinion I don't think that should be your target.... I think you should be trying to match the "other insert", which is the climate control.... & that is exactly what the trim paint I showed will be really, more or less anyway..

    but then you need smooooth....

you'd need to step up your shaping a notch or 2, but starting with a flat smooth board your most of the way there to begin with....

if you wanted the texture you could also just by a flat sheet of abs that is already textured, either of these 2 last methods thoudh & you'd have to get a file & spend some time getting you opening right, It's have to be almost perfect for either of these options to look good...

    & yeah, I own a bodyshop

Well, I was thinking that... The factory radio and the climate controls are both smooth flat black. But personally, I dont think it would look as good for some reason. Ive tried putting up a piece of straight black plastic behind the bezel to see how it looked and it wasnt all that great to me. So, I am going for the texture win loose or draw. At least this time around anyways, I could always do something tricky with it later on down the line....

I dont know. My paint is almost about dry, so I'll see what the deal is.

Well, first I want to say thanks for all of the help and advice

After letting it all dry and sit, I put everything together. And I think I'm happy with the way it came out. It looks pretty close to what I was trying to get, so I am probally just going to leave it the way it is. Here are some of the completed pictures below....

heres an idea. how about painting the oem bezel AND you new part the same way with the same paint. that way it will match perfectly.

also i have used the sem texture paint recently on a screen console i made. it took me about 3 tries to get it the way i wanted. what i ended up doing was to paint 3 coats of the texture spraying about 10" away from the piece 15 minutes apart. then sand with 400g paper lightly just getting the crusty grit off. you can almost see the grain of what you will end with now. wipe off with a tack cloth and then spray with your top coat.

good thing about this is that if you don't like that way it came out you can just sand it off and do it over. or...just practice on a scrap board. hope this helps
