I think compustars quality is higher than dei's, component wise & remote itself, which is the whole user interface really... it usually costs a bit more too...

turbocad6, i figure if i were to ask anyone at all, you'd be the person to ask, but on a difficulty scale of 1-10, how hard do you think it would be to build a board in your car attached to a cell phone that would answer on ringing and be able to arm/disarm your security through a sequence of dial tones (DTMF i think...?), or alternatively dial out through the phone to you if the alarm is triggered?

i figured if the iraqis can do it to set off bombs, it can't be too difficult.

got me there... I once did a remote start connected to a beeper, called the # & the car woulds start... bad thing was, wrong #'s also started the car

I've been thinking about something like this, but not to deeply yet... eventually I do want a way to ring the vehicle from anywhere though... your idea sounds like a good one.....

If I were to put an alarm with remote start on my car, thats a manual, It would always have to be in neutral them, thats the only thing?

And how in the world do the things know how long to crank to start a car?

compustar has a version specifically designed for a manual trans car... it requires you to do a reservation mode each time you park to ensure the car is in neutral... it's real simple & after a few days it becomes second nature, but if you come home **** drunk one night & forget the car in gear... it won't start

it knows it's started by the tach signal... 2-300rpm is cranking... 600 & up is running... as an example.

i always park my car in neutral anyhow. But Compustars are GREAT units, fairly pricey unless you can get a discount on them somehow, i pay $145 for the 6000ft range one, the 2WS-SS etc etc one. They're great units....but oh yea...make sure you get one made for the manual

one of my associates got one from another assoc. and installed it into his manual...only thing is he thought ALL compustars are made for the manuals, but the one he got was from an auto...installed it, worked great for a few months, and 3 days ago he started his car and bumped into my manager's IS300....yeaaa...just a small bump, but there was a scratch in the bumper...and it's a lexus...so it'll be expensive to fix

Whoever he is, he didn't do a right job.

I have it installed for almost 10 years without a single "accident". Not 1 car but I have it on my older (85) Supra too. I have to took it off before I sold the car BTW.

Oh on the remote start via pager. Well, I also did that, but instead of start the car, I use it to cut off the fuel in case the car get stolen. It worked well, but the "wrong number" call did cause problem. To get around that problem, I install a hidden switch to override the cut off.

Ditto. I have it installed on my '98 Cobra and had it installed on my '96 Cobra (both manual of course, itd be sacrilege to have an automatic cobra ). So since 1998 I've been using remote start without any issues.
