Thread: any interest in car specific custom prefabbed bezels with touch screens

Do like what the guy did for the WRX crown. A double DIN openning that can fit both Xernac and Lilliput LCD instead of a whole bezel with screen. The problem with the WRX bezel is that it only fit Lilliput and WRX specific (although little mod can make it fit other cars).
Just a nice looking that you can mount the LCD + button board will do the job.

okay, i'll get started on design soon. Now....would you like colors or plastic or aluminum or what? lol

I do like the idea with making bezels. I like doing things myself, but unless I use the laser, then everyone can tell that it was done myself!

I would have loved to buy a screen and ship it to you guys with a spare bezel or something and get a nice OEM looking piece. I think a lot of people here are a fan of buying parts themselves because they can tell exactly what they are getting and for what price. It seems to me why most people build their own computers, and not just go buy a Dell and slap it in with an inverter. So if they bought all the parts and shipped to you, you could then make it pretty and send it back.

If you do this I might just rip my screen out and send it in to you!

If you still wanted the screen bundles too, maybe have that as an option.

okay, i'm almost done with the project proposal. I'm still brainstorming a few details that i KNOW you guys are going to love. Not to get you guys too excited, but i'm trying to make this the way i woudl want it made, which by all accounts means it will cover as many bases as feasibly possible.

My new questions are these:
what add ons would you want that can be attached to the housing as options? So far all i can think of are fingerprint readers, a USB hub with 2 or 3 ports up front (so you dont' have to worry about running a line down to your car pc and then another one right back up for multiple devices), 3.5mm stereo in jack (possibly) for mp3 players, and video in from the screen itself. Like i said, this is really happening, pending demand, and i'm really designing it-- and i need you guys to tell me what else you want on the housing as add ons (built in housing features are already pretty much set)

Also, check out the classifeds. at the moment, i have to finance this and i'm still disabled.:P

If you could get it all to fit, the most desirable would probably be a slot load mount, a user accessible ON/OFF button, maybe a phigit dial, USB ports, a few user definable hotkeys, really the sky is the limit. Letting the user pick from a limited configurable list would be best IMO of the most popular of configurations.

It would be a task to make all this fit in but it can be done.

My personal favorites would have to be a slot load mount, and an analog dial for volume control.

I'd be interested if I could get a nice finished product for a reasonable price for sure. But again, part of the fun is doing it yourself. However there are tons of people who don't see it my way... They want a product they can install in an afternoon and be back on the couch in time for The Real World.

My truck (99 F350 superduty) shares pretty much the exact same dash up until 04 I believe. It's also the same in the 250s, 450s, 550s, and 650s.

But I'm sure you'll get a lot more market share if you stick to the import cars.
