    Thumbs up

Guys - I have spoken to the engineers and the lead time will be 4 weeks from the cheque clearing worst case, as they are subcontracting the finishing out to a dedicated materials finishing company. I will be sending them a piece of the R32 trim to match the finish to.

Thanks to all of you who have sent te money across already. I am still awaiting payment from 5 people, who I have just chased by email and hope will get the money across this afternoon/this evening so I can initiate this before I leave for my trip.

I will be keeping everyone updated by email as and when I hear from the engineers.

I have attached a link to the 3d model they are using to build this to wet your apetite dont worry those of you who have ordered the bezel with the IR receptor hole, this will be included this was the model they created before I requested this as an option. There is also another slight ammendment to glows original drawing in that the corners will have a 3mm radius. I have it on good authority that the final he had fabricated would have had to have had the same change in order for the CNC to cut the job. The file is a zipped solidwords exe and u wont need a CAD package or viewer, just run it up, click the play button and say wow!

    Download It!

looked at your model and was wondering how the screen attaches to it and how the bezel mounts to the dash?

Hi mate, its not my model its taken from the one done by glow/vwfreak here:

    2001 VW Jetta CarPc Install

After numerous attemtpts to contact him without success, I took his drawing and sent it the engineers for quotation, and voila this groupbuy was born.

I plan on using 3m double sided tape to secure the bezel to the radio cage, as for mounting the screen, I havent cracked my xenarc open yet as it has developed a fault so needs to be replaced before I break the warranty seal

Anyway, I will be creating a worklog as soon as I have this so watch this space to see how I do it.

Best of look getting your design marketed tho mate, looks like it should be a good one!

    Jon

Yeah...we definitely need to develop a way to secure the screen to the bezel. Inside the xenarc case, it uses four screws that are attached to "picture frame arms", holding the screen to the bezel. If we have no mounting holes, how do you think we should attach the screen?

    EDIT:

Well looking at the pic they appear to be self tappers that hold the "arms" in so a bit of careful drilling in the th reverse of the bezel will give you the holes to attach the screen to it as per the orignal housing.

I have tried repeatedly to get in touch with glow to get some detail on how he mounted the thing but cant get hold of the chap. I would have alrady had my xenarc apart and got this cracked by now if it hadnt developed a fault meaning I had to ship it back to the US for replacement before I break the warranty seal.
This isn't rocket science fellas, so I shouldnt worry about it too much...

You do know that 3m tape won't hold up for to long inside a hot car right. I thought that this was going to custom for a jetta this is really just a picture frame. this would work for any screen and any car with about 5 hours of custom work and a torch. I thought we were looking at something like this.
