Thread: 9.0" Wide LCD in 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

LCD bracket, version 001.

Extremely rough draft, but it's enough for a start.

Used eMachineShop's freeware CAD/CAM software because it has a decent 3D visualization of the parts you're designing.

I may not actually have them make the parts for a one-off, though.


The idea is that the frame attaches to the inside of the dash in the same places as the radio does, and the LCD panel gets mounted to the front of the frame.

Then the ABS bezel gets opened up, trimmed, and shaped, and goes in front of the LCD panel.


This design is intended for Impreza's with the automatic climate control, so I don't know if it would fit the ones with the manual climate control.. but who knows, it may fit.


Design is subject to major revisions over the next few months..

Yeah, I tried the same (an 8.4" LVDS screen) in my 2003 Impreza WRX, and never really finished it.

So I traded it in for a 2005 STi, and having found the 9" widescreen, I'm trying it again.


An 8" widescreen would have actually been the perfect size, but none are available in the LVDS connection, and I didn't want analog VGA.

Yeah, since the manual climate controls are mounted to the dash, and not the radio bezel, you might actually have more room.

The auto climate controls are screwed to the radio bezel, which changes things a little bit in terms of vertical clearance.


The best thing about Subaru's is their interior modular nature.. I can modify any thing I want, because I can always get replacement parts online.

Example - the radio bezel is about $40, and the center console (where the radio mounts) is about $50.

Not bad in terms of cost for repairs back to stock condition.

Giuliano - if given dimensions, would you be willing to make a screen bracket for other screens? I have an 04, so I don't know if they use the same radio mounting points.

PM me a picture of your center console so I know what type it is, and I'll see what I can do.

It is an 04, so it still has the manual climate controls. It should be the same as the 02-03 models.
