    Custom CarPC CNC Milling Service

I would like to gauge the level of interest for a custom CNC milling service that is targeted specifically at the CarPC hobby. Uses include custom cases, bezels, custom MDF parts and other one-off parts. I would also like to get any other ideas on possible products of interest to this community. What other features are most requested in a new (Ampie-like) case? Some say PCI card support, others say CD/DVD drive, or even a 3.5" drive. What do you think? What colors?

In terms of cost, we are looking to be as cheap as possible since we want to offer one-off parts. There will likely be a milling cost based on the size and complexity of the milling (fairly cheap). There will also be a materials cost to supply the aluminum, plastic or MDF that is milled. Finally, there will be a small design charge unless the CAD file is provided by the customer.

    Some ideas:
    Custom Bezels
    Custom Milled Cases
Engraving on Plexiglass, Plastic, or Metals
    Plexiglass Cutting and Milling
    MDF Milling (Sub-Rings, etc)

    Any Ideas?

I'm going to build a CNC machine within the next 6 months. I'd do stuff for people on the boards at a much lower cost than most places would.

I would love to see something similar to an ampie like case that supports a PCI card.

Or even a little bit larger version supporting a micro atx board with a PCI slot. Plastic or Aluminum.

I could also use some 3" speaker rings for a grill (metal preferably) and/or spacer rings (these could be MDF). If you are given dimensions would that be enough to go off of?

I have no idea what CNC machining costs. Could you give rough estimates?

You'd love me? It probably wouldn't take a lot to make something like this. Would it have to physically clamp onto the battery? Or could it be like a breakout box and maybe have a thick cable between it and the battery?

We would be much cheaper, and again, specifically tailored to the CarPC market. Off the top of my head, a few MDF spacer rings might set you back $35? That's just a rough estimate, and for a set of 4 or so. It's not tough to make something like that, and the MDF required isn't that expensive.

Some sort of next-generation PC case is definitely on our list. We would need a LOT of input and suggestions though. Aluminum extrusions sure are expensive, and may be out of the question. It would have to be either milled or sheet metal, or maybe a combination of both. I like the idea of a modular case, this way it can be customized to fit certain parts (ie: a 2.5"HDD and DVD slot, or instead only a 3.5"HDD). Ideas? I need to drum up enough interest in this...

I think there is a lot of need, but of course, would be based on cost/price.

I don't think it could ever be a full time job for you, but a couple weekends a month, and I think you will have stuff to do, and be able to fund your hobby.

I know in the past I paid way to much to have stuff CNC'd out of plastic. I would have done it with you if you were cheaper.
