    Oem finishing techniques

I am going to be building a bezel for a LCD panel, there is a metra kit available for the car and i plan to simply use a strong adhesive or fibreglass to mount the LCD trim/bezel to the Metra peice then use some sort of filler such as bondo etc. to fill and smooth the gaps/holes. Is there a particular product/s that can be used to give me that semi-textured satin black finish after ive filled, smoothed, sanded, and primed the final peice?

    Cheers boys and girls....

SEM Texture Coat is what you're after, and then possibly a dye if you want to change the colour. Available through Select Products in the US I think, although you can probably find it other places.

Here's a piece I did with some, without dye: http://www.icecavern.com/forum/index...e=post&id=1100

ask turbocad6 for the specifics, but i think he just spattered the paint from the can and laid it on real dry to get the grainy ABS texture before laying down the final color. Part of the genious of that technique is that you can get that texture with any color you please.

There's also krylon fusion texture, check out my worklog (in my sig) for a pic of a close-up of the texture (page 5 is where the bezel stuff starts) it's a nice subtle texture closer matched to oem stuff. I then applied Krylon fusion satin black over that to get the color I wanted. Also, IMO it's better to use abs with abs (and not fiberglass and bondo.) Metra uses abs plastic and most screen bezels are abs, so this would be a WAY better bond, and wouldn't have the issues with cracking or warping due to dissimilar chemicals' heat expansion rates.

They sell the krylon stuff at wally-world (wal mart) for about 4 bucks a can...

You could always just sand blast the "finished" product to get the texture. Looks good and very OEM. Of course, that only works if the plastic is the right color.
