2004 Kia Sportage

I have a 2002, not 2004, Sportage

I could use some suggestions. My sportage has limited space for installing a display. The on ly options I see are an in-dash display, ceiling mount, or cutting a whole in the head lining and flush mounting a standalone display. The only in-dash displays that are even remotely affordable look like they are very questionable quality. Ceiling moutn displays are way too expensive. That leaves me with mounting a standalone in the headliner.

Has anybody installed a display in such a manner or have any suggestions? I do plan on doing some off roading this summer so durability is a must. I really do not want a monitor landing on my head.

i saw a few pics of interior.

you do have double din space, which means you can add 7 to 8 inch monitor
you could move climate controls down , and install the screen there, that way it would be a perfect spot, then only thing is where you would put stereo.

OOPS, I lied, it's not a 2004, it is a 2002. My bad. Wishful thinking I guess.

My initial plan was to use an indash display, but that is prooving to be a bit too pricey for my budget. Would work perfect for my carputer. I am going to be using a JVC KD-HDR1 for the audio portion.

This not from my verhicle, just one I found on the net. Only difference is, I have the 4wd manual transmission instead of the auto.

wow, there is a lot of work for this one but it can be done, if you install the screen where your stereo is, it would be way to low, and hazardous.

you can try to intall it where your air wents, are in would look good, but you would not be able to use wents anymore,

overhead it one way to do it, it has to be above rear view mirror. another thing is if you can purchase the part from your kia dealership, the climate control bezel, you might be able to move it below the stereo, ans screen the instead, but it's a lot of work

my personal preference is over head i saw one of the members install, i will look for that topic, also there will be no glare from the sun that way

took me awhile, anyway author is Pokey, he hasn' been on board for awhile
using 2 screens ?

Thats similar to what I was thinking, although I dont particularly like the looks of his install. I thinking more along the lines of mounting it directly to the headliner so it would look flush. I just don't know if there is enough room behind the headliner or any way to secure it to prevent it from falling out. I'll have to do some checking and toying around. I may try and do something similar to what pokey did. I believe there are a few companies that can custome fabricate headliners and incorporate something like that. I'm sure the cost will be outrageous, but, you never know.
