Angry Help on mounting 7" or 8" TS.

I am at a complete stand still as far as building my CarPC. I come from the technical world of computers and not a SINGLE thing of fabrication or building my own anything. i've looked all over the place to only find double DIN kits for my car that come close (and may work but haven't had any verification from anyone).

I am attempting to put a 7" or 8" which ever fits, in my 2006 Mazda 3\S series 4dr.

I would really like to keep the factory stereo in it if i'm able to or move it to my glove box (i've seen people on here do it successfully, not sure how difficult) because if my carputer isn't working or i just want to bypass and do regular ol' stereo\CD use i can. but my primary concern is that i have a SOLID idea on where and how i am going to mount my screen.

i've seen multiple ideas on here from multiple different people that have fantastic self-made kits to people that have slightly modified something they bought. i'm looking to be the latter, i can modifiy some but that's about it. i've never done any hands-on fabricating like this at all so, this new car of mine i'm not real keen on practicing on lol.

i'm not sure if this is allowed, but i would almost be willing to purchase a kit from someone, whether it be a stock HU replacement and then how i can put the stock HU in the glove compartment or a replacement of the vent piece with a pop up LCD mount (saw one on here and it looked great).

i've made a few posts on here with just referals to other threads that i've unfortunately already read multiple times that didn't really help because i can't fabricate for beans lol, again technical field not hands-on workmanship with these types of tools and materials.

i will show you what i have found up till now on my hunt for this:

    - www.metraonline.com Part #: 99-7504. this would require me to replace my stock HU which i'm not big on since i'd have to put it in my glove box, but if it's my only choice...oh well

    - Ebay listing of a kit for my vehicle. this here is a link to an ebay listing of a guy that sells this all the time. seller says he doesn't think it would fit, mostly because it's for a radio and not just an LCD screen and again, have to replace stock HU if i had as my only option.

    - finally i found this website of a guy that builds these custom made, i sent him an email and didn't get a reply yet so i'm not sure how this'll go but the website is www.humount.com. supposedly a nice, customer centric guy but haven't gotten a response yet, so nothing there.

now for the monitors i'd like to put in...

This one here is the one i'd prefer to have if i could find a bezel to fit it.

This is the other one i'd use if the 8" dynamix didn't work.

Ideas? Suggestions? Comments? on these screens? i was also considering the lilliput i saw on here but it was out of stock.

If anyone has any better ideas than what i can come up with on location of the screen, which screen to use or anything please leave a post here. i am pretty much desperate for ideas because like i've said before i'm at a stand still here as far as where i'm gonna put the touchscreen and how. i'm able to buy the stuff needed no problem. i just haven't started buying stuff yet cause i'm not sure i'll be able to put a screen in properly.

thanks for reading this and thanks for any help in advance.

hey, I honestly didn't read that novel of a post, but... if you want to keep your head unit, what i would suggest is you just put the head unit right above the a/c vents right on your dash, then have a flip out touchscreeen... I'm currently trying to find where the kit to put a head unit there is... its somewhere at www.mazda3forums.com If I find it, i'll post, if not, thats a good place for you to go look at

    lol.

i can't use that because i'm not using a single DIN HU. i'm talking about keeping the STOCK HU. so my clock display will work still.

didn't know it was going to be labeled a novel. it says in there about what kind of HU i was talkin about instead of a single DIN HU.

i've seen that on ebay already it doesn't really apply because it's a single DIN HU.

    thanks for the replies though.

A clock is a lame reason to retain a headunit.
You're going to have a computer int eh car that does a fine job of telling you the time. Hell, Windoze will also automagically adjust for daylight savings time, assuming you live in an area that adjusts for DST....
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

My friends 1987 or so volvo had a nice clock in it.

No tachometer, just an analog clock. Even when the car was off, you could here it ticking away.

It was the goofiest thing I had seen in a car for a long time!

well yeah i got that part but that would mean i'd have to go and buy a 400-800 dollar motorized 1 DIN HU just for this instead of the low 200 - high 200's.

lol and no i don't want to keep it JUST for the clock, i also want it incase there are any issues i still have the ability to use something, and also i can use the hand controls for volume (i'd hook up the audio outputs to the inputs of the stock HU)

does anyone not have any suggestions or ideas on how i could successfully modify any of those listed kits in my original post?

thanks toaster, thought i was loosing my mind, lol

Yeah, I was saying to just get a 7" motorized flip out touch screen, and just put that above the stock head unit, then you can just run the computer straight to your stock head unit through the auxillery input adapter...

keep your stereo, keep the cd player functions, keep the clock, keep the thermometer, yet still get a carputer...
