I've used wood for almost all my carpc cases. It allowed me to built one quickly and easily to the dimensions I needed. For mositure resistance just paint it or seal it and be done. If it's soaking up mass amounts of moisture/water I think you are going to have other problems.

My old Firebird was a mobile fishtank. Leaky seals in the trunk, doors, and rear window. Maybe it didn't help that the rear floor boards had holes in them also. It was always moist in that car. Plants were growing everwhere. Ah, the bad ole days.

I was thinking about metal shielding to prevent the computer and sound card from getting interference from the engine. I had that issue again with my '76 Firebird with mobile (battery powered) radios. Damn igintion.

Suprised I didn't die in that thing.

However, sounds like lots of folks had good luck with wood. I think it would be better and stronger than metal for the unique shaped places in cars.

Well that just solved a mounting issue I was deciding on. Maybe a little wood glue or some kind of bonding material on the threads too?

This seems like an old post..but my computer is in MDF box right now..i have no problems with it..its 3/4 inch mdf..connected together using a special wood silcone and nails..its in the form of a box with a hingdged lid...
its a small mobo..the via m1000 so u can picture how small the case is..just wory about circulation..so what i did was..i drilled a hole small enought for a 2 inch fan..screwd and silconed that near the back of the case from the inside..so thats bringing in the air..and i drilled a couple holes in the front of the case for exhaust..havent had a problem yet..have been using it for 2 months now..and its positioned beside a subwoofer inclosure..2 12 inch..so u can imagine how much shaking that case is going through..theyre is a gap between them which i filled with sponge so that theyre not resting directly on one another..i hope my post helped..good luck let us now..im going to be posting pics of my case and install soon too..

OHHH..i used weatherstripping to seal the top of the lid to the rest of the box...so its a tight squeeze..and put a mesh grille on the fan for large debris..
