Various LCD Meters

I don't really know where else to put this, but I'm thinking about fabbing up some kind of frame in my glove box that would display a few LCD readouts of various things (AC Voltage on mono amp outputs, temperature of PC, etc)

I've found a bunch of distributors online, but they don't just give prices of single units, nor batches. Has anyone done something like this before that can guide me in the right direction and possibly tell me what other hardware I would need to be doing all this? I mean, my multimeter cost all of 15 bucks, I can't imagine this being expensive at all!

$15 RadioShack multimer is not a good multimeter. Good enough for light measuring though, but not for heavy details.

But if you just want LCD output, you can get character LCD's from mouser for pretty cheap.

I'm not looking for realtime accuracy and resolution, I'm looking to effectively see what my output is at a glance and such. I guess what I'm also looking for is the actual hardware that will be running this, the circuit control boards and stuff. Do they come included with the LCD?

The controller boards do not come with the LCD. There are a couple options:

1) Build the circuit yourself off of a parallel port using the standard hd44780 controller for under $5

2) Buy a $50 prebuilt USB unit such as: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/avcards/7e3e/
