    Screen hidden into 1 DIN

Well, my first bigger CarPC project.
Today I have a laptop on the back seat floor where we have the baby seat. This means that no one can't sit there.
Anyhow, the screen is in my point of view the worst part to hide, so ideas start popping up like magic mushrooms on late evenings. Today i have to mount and remove the screen everytime enter/leave the car and it starting to become a pain. The screen i have is cheap model that believe have been discussed before (DWW-7xx something, in sweden it's called TV-710).
I really don't want mod the interior beyond recognition, but keep it as stock as possible. My Volvo S40 2000 has a double DIN from what I understand which could easily be transformed to a new 1 DIN stereo that would leave space for a project...
The idea I have is something similar to the motorized screens available. Although my project is more of a KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid).

Made a sketch and scanned it, so please bare with me of the quality.
Two bars holding the screen with two hinges so that i can pull it up towards the dash and let it rest there.
How to lock it and so on I already have ideas on, so that's not a issue.
The big issue would be if the bars have any room behind, but from a quick look it looks like theres alot of air in my Volvo S40 behind the stereo.

Here's the sketch... Hope you understand it..

Please, give me feedback. Am I totally wasting my time on this? Any similar ideas anyone? Improvements? What to think about? etc etc...

I think your best bet would be to buy a broken 1 din screen, and then put your circuitry and lcd panel in the machined box. It will be hard to fabricate something like that.

There have been a few projects of people trying to do this. Some used linear actuators, some just little plastic gears, some used cabinet slides...

I only remember 1 turning out, and the guy was going to write something about it, but I don't think there was enough support for it. Try searching and I am sure you will find it.

I think you are missing the point here. This guy wants to build one with the screen he already has, not buy a premade screen.
