The cable was it... Learned something new... a USB charging cable and a USB data cable aren't the same thing, even though they look like the same thing.
Works great... thanks!

2k1Toaster, you got me thinking... thanks!
The only micro-USB cable I had hanging around I swiped from my kid. It is the charger cable for his wireless headphones.
I did a quick Google search and learned something new this morning.... not all USB cables are created equal. Cables made specifically for charging applications are wired differently. The data lines are wired together or something like that to tell the USB controller that is is a charging cable, allowing the USB hub current limit to be set higher than it normally is. At the same time, it makes the cable useless for sending data.
I'll swing by Staples tonight on my way home and snag one of their overpriced USB cables and try it again.

That's definitely true. USB cables can be very different.

Is it better to adjust volume through the PC volume, or via the amp in the boot? (For quality of sound)
I've been looking around for something like this. I see it's available in the MP3 store but it is double the price to get it shipped to Canada, Ontario. Are there any other (cheaper) options for us Canucks to get this?
I am actually revamping my own store to start selling directly again. But it is not complete. I am not a huge business so my shipping rates are what everyone else will pay. I don't think it would be much if any cheaper from me directly. I ship personal stuff to Ontario all the time and it usually costs me $20 to $50 just for the postage. The post is cheaper but takes a long time...

Okay. Well a friend of mine takes frequent trips to the states so I think I will try to work something out to have them bring it back for me - sounds like my best bet.
