I would be interested in one if you could miniaturize it so it could mount in a small 1/2" space or so. Think separating the encoder with led base wired to a thin board sealed in shrink tube so we could mount in between cup wells on car consoles or other limited access locations.

Perhaps add a few headers for buttons as well. A main board with headers for the encoder and buttons. This would add some mounting flexibility.

Also, this encoder/joystick is quite a bit cheaper: http://www.digikey.com/catalog/en/pa...c-series/10667

What would you want to be illuminated? The shaft already has RGB glowing?

I would like to be able to gut my power mate and install one of these inside the shell so it would actually work on something newer than XP..........

I tried that one quite a while ago. My issue isn't getting the power mate to work or be recognized, it works perfect on the windows desktop. The issue is when RR is full screened as it should be, the PM app is no longer in focus and stops working. I have to select the PM app again to move the volume. Then the next time I touch anything in RR, RR comes into focus and PM stops responding again. Very very frustrating. I'm thinking space navigator may be in my future.
