I have the device doing composite USB, so config and volume control at once. I can change the lights and everything like that. I am working on the final bit of code to be able to programmaticly store the values to the internal flash memory, that way it "remembers" the light config between unplugs.

    It works

Everything seems to be working, but I am still testing.

I think I am at the point where I can open it up to beta-customers. Those that don't mind there may be some firmware updates or software updates. It should work.

So how will one get in this beta program? Do you just consider the first people to buy it from the store to be beta testers or do we need to contact you directly?

    Ok,

If you want to be a beta-tester then please email me your PayPal email address and a shipping address (so I can see what shipping will be) to [email protected] and I will send you a manual invoice. If you are within the US, it won't be more than $5 shipping (flat rate box) but it should be less because it is not that voluminous so I should be able to stick it in something else. Outside the US, it will probably be $15 because that is the international small flat rate box rate and that is generally the best method for small things outside of the states (and no broker fees).

The current MSRP thought is $28 to $35 a piece. For you beta testers, $20. For anyone reading this thread in the future, no you can't have that price.

As a beta tester I would hope that you would (a) use the device obviously and (b) give me some feedback on it.

So currently the only known bug is when you switch directions. It takes 2 detents to change direction, but 1 to change the volume. This was an unexpected result of a change to the firmware to make the device more robust. Because these are mechanical signals there is bouncing. To take that bouncing away, the input is filtered. The filter I implemented basically makes sure you are spinning the same direction. It is really only noticeable if I tell you (now you'll notice!) but I am hoping some magic software goo might de-bug it.

Everything else is functional. So turn the knob anti-clockwise and the volume goes down. Turn the knob clockwise and the volume goes up. Press the knob in once and it mutes. Press again and it unmutes. It is a high quality free spinning optically encoded rotary device so you can spin it forever and it will never reach an end point. That also means you can adjust the volume on the PC or any other place, and the knob will never become "out of sync" because there is no sync to begin with. The LED lighting of the shaft is controlled by 3 independent small LEDs located directly below the shaft: A red one, a green one, and a blue one. You can select a value between 0 (off completely) and 255 (on completely) for each LED. The result is any 24bit colour, or 16million unique colours. You should be able to take the HEX value from photoshop or anything, input those RGB values and make it that colour.
