Three (3) (ALL SOLD) Matsu****a SR-8184-B 4X DVD drives pulled from iMacs. They have a weird connector on the back that requires a rotated version of a standard slim IDE (JAE) to normal 40-pin IDE adapter (i.e., if you try a regular laptop adapter, it will stick out several inches to the side of the drive). One has mounting brackets that may be modifiable to fit in a 5.25" slot.

One (1) (SOLD) Matsu****a SR-8187-B 6X DVD drive pulled from a PowerBook Ti. Similar to the SR-8184-B, but faster (6X) and with a smoother loading mechanism (I can see a little optical sensor in the front that the 8184 doesn't have). Works with the same adapter as the 8184 too. These are pretty hard to find these days.

Three (3) (ALL SOLD) Apple Adapters (part #820-1050, as seen above) for use with any of the above drives. These can screw on to the 8184's (screws included), but you'd have to use tape on the 8187. As far as I know, these are only available from WeLoveMacs.com for $46 shipped. I bought morex cables and soldered them onto the proper spots on the back, so all you would need to do is use an exacto knife to take the little tab off your IDE cable, plug it in (instructions will be included), and it will work.

One (1) 50-pin cable and one (1) morex cable that could be used to wire sound and power more elegantly (I'll give you the pinouts).

ALL ARE TESTED AND GUARANTEED TO WORK (although I can't refund shipping if you send it back)

    Prices shipped:

50-pin & morex cables: $3 (with purchase of a drive)
    8184 alone: $40 UNAVAILABLE (compare with $110 from WeLoveMacs.com)
    8184 w mounting bracket: $42 SOLD
    8184 w adapter: $70 ALL SOLD
8184 w mounting bracket and adapter: $72 UNAVAILABLE
    8187 alone: $60 UNAVAILABLE (compare with $150 from PBFixIt.com)
    8187 w adapter: $90 SOLD

Yes, absolutely. I've tested them all on XP.

NoPistonPC: See my PM for a PayPal address. As for your questions, I thought I'd answer them here:

          2) What is the purpose of the 50-pin cable? The existing molex connector will provide power and sound data is transmitted through the IDE connector, so why would I need this other cable?
I think the PC-style laptop adapters (the ones that are rotated wrong for these drives) have a floppy-style power receptacle, but these don't - you have to solder a morex connector to the right spot on the adapter. The mac adapters also have a 50-pin IDE receptacle - on macs, power and analog sound data goes through the extra 10 pins - but you can plug a standard 40-pin plug in as long as it's all the way to the correct side (I'll include instructions with a picture), which requires cutting away the little tab off the IDE connector. The 50-pin cable & extra molex cable are for people who might want to have a fool-proof 50-pin connector on one end - more modding is necessary, though, because you'd probably want a 40-pin connector at the other end.

          Hopefully that all makes sense.

Linus, thanks for the clarification. Why does apple always have to be different from everyone else?

I'm looking forward to receiving the drive!

Looks like everything's claimed except the 50-pin cable and extra molex connector. First PM or response post I get from someone who bought a drive gets these for free.

These went so fast, I'm wondering if maybe I should have asked for more... Oh well.

                  Thanks everyone!
