  • wanted: specific shape USB hub, pic inside

    Hey guys I'm on the lookout for a USB hub and was hoping somebody here had one or has seen one in a store. It needs to have 2 ports on one side (or end) and at least 1 port on any of the other sides. I've found plenty that have 2 or 4 ports on one side, none on the others, or ones that have 1 port on each side. Here's a couple drawings to show what I'm looking for. (Yes, the one is geometricly incorrect, but I needed to show both sides.) Thanks!

    {Xenarc 700TSV} {Celeron M 1.3 ghz} {ASUS mATX mobo w/CT479} {MX440 128mb AGP} {1x512mb RAM} {3.5" Seagate 40gb (rated at 350 G's)} {M1-ATX}

      Almost. But the ports have to be stacked like in my pic.

      I think I've got something figured out with a hub I have, that has 1 port on every side. But if anybody finds anything please post up.

              I need to put it in a very small area that the ports must be oriented just right.

              Ports? At least 2 at all times, sometimes up to 4.

                I have never seen a usb hub in that shape (or close to it for that matter) and i work at a computer store and we have a variety of hubs.

                  I think your best bet is to use 2 of the hubs with ports on all four sides. Then stack them one on top of eachother.

                  Or if you know how to solder (and u should!), then use the one with ports on all four sides, and move the left and right port to above the front and back, creating the same as in the picture for like 5 bucks and 30 minutes of work (to make it look good that is!).

                    THat's almost what I ended up doing right before I saw your post. I took the hub's guts out of the cae and made a new chassis out of 1/8" ABS, screwed the board to it, then epoxied the end of a short USB extension cord to the other side. Tada, just what I needed. I might post a pic if I get around to it.

                    So not needed anymore! Thanks to you guys that helped!

                      Well, good to hear that you got it to work. Post up some pics when you get around it.

                        I have one of those. 2 port on 1 side + mini usb input and 2 port on the other size with aluminum case. Just a little bigger than a CF card and about 1/8" thicker.

                          this may be a stupid question, but does a hub like this have the ability to turn one usb port from the computer into 4 ports for 4 different devices? i would imagine it would be easier just having one long cable from the laptop in the trunk to the hub in the front, and then i could plug in all my devices using shorter cables into the hub. is there any downside to this?

                            One of the most suckass pics of all time, but it gets the point across. The assembly is epoxied behind a panel that's finished nicely.
