  • WTB: Ready-to-Go Carputer (New or Good Condition)

I'm looking to install a carputer in my 2003 Chevy Avalanche this holiday season. Although I don't feel like buying all the individual parts that are compatible and praying that it all works with my truck. Hopefully this way I can get a little price break and have a complete carputer set (w/ touchscreen).

I'm open to any carputer setup, although any setup with an indash touch screen would be great. Just list the detailed specs of the computer!

    Thanks,
    ComputerGuru

If you are looking at spending a reasonable amount of money then why not look at a UMPC such as the Samsung Q1.

My setup is as follows (this is not for sale, just shows you what can be done)

Samsung Q1 - 1GHz Pentium, 1 GB Ram (full warranty!!)
RoadRunner front end with Blue Devil skin (all downloadable from mp3car)

The Q1 has built in Bluetooth for a BT Keyboard if needed.

Dash mounts are just about to become available so choose something to fit your truck.

Built in Wifi so I added a Linksys router to the vehicle and plugged in a Ximeta NDAS Network drive (250GB) with my MP3 and Vid collection (don't need a DVD drive)

I have both a Bluetooth and a USB GPS receiver (both work equally well) so take your choice and I run iGuidance3 embedded with the roadrunner mods.

Plugs into my headunit aux input and away I go.

            Heres the costs to date

Samsung Q1 - $1100 (cheaper ones on Ebay for $750)
BT Keyboard - $175 (not required just nice)
            iGuidance 3 - $100
            GPS - $75
Linksys Router - $250 (EVDO version - regular Router about $40)
            Ximeta 250GB NDAS drive - $140
RoadRunner and Blue Devil - FOC
            Mounts - $50
Car charger and Invertor - $100

The best thing about this setup is that you get a warranty and the UMPC can be used as a regular PC at home if necessary.

I also have the complete homebrew version that I started with and I'd go with the UMPC anytime purely for the zero hassle factor. Just a few thoughts for you to consider as options.

$900 is a good price. Is the screen mounted or indash? I'll get back to you before Xmas if, I'm going to purchase!

First of all I did research before ipurchased the hdd. Its made by toshiba and its 5400 rpm with a 16mb cache. So the features makes it consume less power and less heat than a 7200 rpm drive. I read reviews on it an no one had complaints. The drive was 179.99 plus shipping. So it came out to like 195.

Also. If u were asking me about the screen I have in my deal for 900 it is 8 inch and I molded it into my dash. I will take it out and put it in its original case. Email me at kalscustoms at tmail dot com
