  • Categories for a Download section?

As many of you have probably seen, I am working on a Downloads section for the forum.

Part of this is to create a number of categories.

I have created a number of categories already. Rather than list them off here, I'd like to know what categories you would like to see for this downloads area.

The purpose of this area is to host files that people use or look for frequently.

Things like new .dll's for programs. Plug-ins, skins, releases, etc. for the various front ends. Nifty programs that some of you have written.

Hosting these files here will help prevent those broken links that so many of us run across for those programs or files that you desperately need but just can't seem to find.

So let me hear your suggestions!

All messages posted become the property of MP3Car.com.
Hmm ... I take it that also means any downloads mirrored by MP3Car.com, I won't allow anything I have done in the past be hosted by MP3Car.com.

      You are correct Enforcer.

Gobby - I decided to add this feature as a kind gesture, not as a way to screw people.

Then before people add their software you need to add some kind of disclaimer saying the software is the owner of the author, not of MP3Car.com as it currently says in your forum rules.

                Red,

Things like ownership are very important when it comes to someones work, therefore you should understand that if you are going to host files you need to sort out who has ownership of those files, and make it clear to anyone who may consider uploading them.

Now as has been mentioned by gobby, forum rules states that all posts become owned by MP3Car.com therefore by implication anything uploaded to your servers also becomes owned by MP3Car.com.

So before inroducing something like downloads you need to make it clear whether anything uploaded will become MP3Car.com property or remain the property of the owner.

We are not having a go as such, but these sort of things should be thought out properly before being introduced.

To tell you the truth...I didn't even think about the section of the rule that was posted...the intent is not to make anything posted the property of MP3Car.com.

It's rather annoying when you try and do something you feel is thoughtful and done for others only to have it joked about (Enforcer, Odyssey, and Rafster) and ****ed on (Gobby).

Perhpas there would have been a more appropriate way to question it...something that doesn't come across as being so hostile right off the bat.

Perhaps, for once, something that's posted doesn't have to be turned into some kind of a joke or some porn/sex comment.

                    Not so sensitive, be strong

It's a good idea, but what I read between the lines of the posts above is that you need to pay attention...
There will be people putting stuff there that doesn't belong...and it's only normal there are questions about ownership.

Correct rules make good friends so the rules should represent your intentions to have people trust it 100%...

Still think it's a good move

I've already written the rules for the section...which is why I didn't mention them here...why I was asking about the categories.

I was just clarifying about the three items I mentioned not being valid options, before someone added them to the lists of wants.

Because you know they would have been added by some.

I decided to nip it in the bud, with a tinge of humour I grant you, but that's me.

I wasn't ****ing on the idea, merely stating a fact, ask anyone here who codes, writes skins etc, the rule I quoted states that any post - which could also include an upload, is automatically owned by MP3Car.com. Maybe your rules need rewriting a little.

I have been a member of MP3Car.com for many years and slowly have seen it become a commercial entity using the forums to push its own products, I was merely trying to protect myself and others creating software, skins etc and asking for it to be clarified, maybe it was slightly hostile but I feel copyright should remain with the author no matter what.
