Why would you make this poll multiple choice instead of single answer?

Wired, did you think it was worthless because you had negative rep?

Zip-Lock, if you cared less about it, why did you remove it?

I think it was worthless for at least the following 2 reasons,

As is quite easily seen, I could'nt care less what people feel about me, positive or negative, so wether I had positive or negative affected me in no way.

Next, you and the "Rep Club" made the ratings worthless. You gave each other rep points, not because of a helpfull post, but just because you wanted "danglies" and it somehow made you all feel important. It made the whole idea of rep points worthless because it meant nothing to you. It was just the thing, and/or something to do.

The rep system was not implemented in order to keep you entertained, or to give you something to do with your life.

That is why it is worthless. You and the rep club cheapened it, and made it worthless.

          actually it did.
Just like this forum gives something to do with your life, like bashing noobs, cause it apparently looks like you have nothing better to do with your real life.

I agree. I've pretty much watched you (wired) go from helpful to ***-hole in the 3 years I've been participating here. Strange how it happened, but it did. I still see you post some helpful information, but it's usually a few sentences, perhaps a full paragraph at best. When you get up on the bashin' box, you'll drivel on forever it seems. Like someone has just put a kink in you're whole day because they asked "how do I power my carPC??". Your a member here, just like everyone else, this isn't your personal site. It seems you've made yourself far too comfortable here.

As far as the rep system goes, even if it's put into place, it's pointless. All it takes is a few days of spending some real time here to see who's good and who's not. Reppin' was just a fun game to me. Even if it was used legit, it would still be pointless in my eyes. It was just one of those fun things that made my time here more enjoyable while awaiting the next question I could help with.

just the fact that it was pointless also says it was harmless, it added an interesting twist, one of our members actually had a whole bunch of rep points, & somehow an upgrade to the system combined with a software glitch caused all of his reps to turn negative... he had like 7 red balls

              so what?...

              who really cares?

I think your taking it way to serious if you ask me, who really cares ....

it was good clean, harmless fun.... nothing to be jelous of, nothing to be afraid of....

                JESUS TITTY *****ING CHRIST!

IT IS A *****ING FORUM ON THE INTERNET - WIRED, ZIPLOCK WAKE UP AND GO OUTSIDE AND SEE THE REAL WORLD.

WHO GIVES A **** IF 30 OR SO PEOPLE HAVE 10, 20, 30 DANGLIES? IT WAS OBVIOUS TO ANYONE THAT IT WAS A JOKE. ZIP, OR WHOVER IT WAS, IF YOU EVEN TRY AND GO AGAINST THAT THEN YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE AS SOMEONE GAVE GODOFCPU A 2000 REP THAT SAID "I LOVE YOU".

NOW...YOU WANT TO SEE THE WAY I LOOK AT IT? THIS DAMN REP THING WOULD PROBABLY HAVE GONE WIDELY UNUSED BECAUSE PEOPLE WOULDNT HAVE NOTICED IT, OR KNOWN WHAT IT WAS WAS BUT WHEN YOU GET A FEW OLD TIMERS AND QUITE FRANKLY THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE FUN IN THIS DAMN MISERABLE PLACE THEN IT GETS NOTICED. WHO GIVES A **** IF THEY WERE HAVING FUN. I DONT. I DONT CARE LESS THAT IT HAS GONE, WE WILL FIND A NEW WAY TO HAVE A BIT OF A LAUGH AND TO BE HONEST THE BEST THING ABOUT IT WAS THE WAY THAT PEOPLE WERE BEING CREATIVE OVER DISPLAYING LISTS - SOME OF THEM WERE PURE GENIOUS!

AND IF ANYONE REALLY WANTS TO KNOW I ACTUALLY GOT A HELL OF A LOT OF GOOD REP FROM NEWBIES - WANT TO KNOW WHY? BECAUSE I AM POLITE AND HELPFULL TO THEM AND EXPLAIN STUFF NOT JUST TELL THEM.

THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO HAD A PROBLEM WITH US HAVING FUN WAS THE USUAL SUSPECTS. THE USUAL SUSPECTS WHO SEEM TO MAKE IT THEIR PERSONAL MISSION TO HAVE A GO AT ASKING QUESTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN ASKED JUST BECASUE THEY DIDNT SEARCH. AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE THIS IS A HOBBY, IT IS MEANT TO BE ENJOYABLE. PEOPLE DONT COME HERE TO GET ABUSED OR BELITTLED. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE IN THAT ALL THE DAMN THREADS WHERE THEY ASK ARE NOW FULL OF RUDE "GO READ THE DAMN FAQ'S YOU N00B" TYPE POSTS.

AND AS FOR THE FAQ'S - FFS. WHEN IS THERE GOING TO BE AN FAQ ON HOW TO READ THE FAQS? OR AN "FAQ OF THE FAQ'S" SECTION? ALL THESE PEOPLE SEEM TO GET OFF ON CREATING FAQS AS IF IT MAKES THEM FEEL BETTER ABOUT THEMSELVES AND QUITE FRANKLY THERE ARE TOO MANY FAQ'S IN TOO MUCH OF A DISORGANISED ORDER TO BE OF ANY *****ING USE!

NOW YET AGAIN I REMIND YOU TO WORK ON THE DAMN SEARCH FUNCTION SO IT PRIORITISES THE FAQ'S AND BEST THREADS RELATING TO THE WORDS IN THAT SEARCH TO STOP PEOPLE HAVING TO TRAWL THROUGH ALL THE ****E.

                ARGHHHHH

                [/caplslock off]

I'm not a programmer so maybe it's much harder than it sounds but this is the number one thing that would improve the forums. When I do search for an issue I have to wade through 10's to sometimes 100's of 3-5 reply threads that basically say "Search" It's FRUSTRATING and as a result there are quite a few things that I'd love to do and I'm sure are possible but I don't have the hours needed to fight the search function for info on them. These two smilies ought to be removed . They just encourage people to respond without any info.

Oh yeah, I thought the reps were amusing and harmless

I voted bring it back, so I guess I should post something as well to support it. I really can't add much to what's already been said, esp to all of someone's /capslock on lol, but I've only been a member since April of this year and in that timeframe I have seen quite a few member's attitudes change, so for the worse and some for the better. I won't mention who's as that wouldn't be proper. But alot more have been for the worse vs for the good. There are some that serious think this is THEIR board, they can treat others how they choose and say screw'm if they don't search and/or can't find what they're looking for. Hell, I surfed the site for about 3-4 months before even signing up initially because I saw the noobs getting flamed for posts that could have easily be resolved with a simple answer, though had they searched, they would have had to wade through some 100 pages and still not really find what they're looking for. I still have problems finding things I've read about on here two weeks later...
Point being this is supposed to be an informative outlet for carputers, and it's a hobby to most of us, thus something we enjoy and we should therefore be having fun with this. I've stated before that I've never seen anyone of the "club" use their rep power in an unfair/wrong manner. It was more about having fun, people with similar interest talking about whatever in the OT threads, esp late at night when there isn't a damn thing else to do. As mentioned before, some of those list were damn genius. All in all it was another 'fun' feature of the site. It was harmless...

and as far as the search function... if this runs off a mysql backend or anything similar, it shouldn't be too hard to modify the search function to place stickys/faqs at the top of search results. Just include the tag/label for posts marked as stickys and place them before all other results

You know, the member rating was pretty useless until us regulars found a use for it. It was another little feature that unlocked peoples creativitity and made this place a bit more fun and interesting.

Of course its Zip Lock's choice whether this feature stays or goes but removing it was bound to **** a few people off, particularly as there was no prior warning or explanation given until it was asked for by a member.

What really gets me is that we weren't breaking any rules, nor were we detrimentally affecting any of the users of this site. However, a spam thread that had links to porn sites and flouted the rules of this site remained for all to see despite it being reported by me and additional not-so-subtle reminders aimed at the admins. It was only after I posted a comment about the rep system in the porn thread that it got removed.

The rep thing was fun while it lasted and no doubt something else will come along soon enough. We'll see how long that avenue of funs lasts before it gets closed off. That just seems to be the way it is on this forum.

I wanted to vote it was great, and also that it was worthless, but I didn't agree with the second part of the second option, so I just voted it was great. IMO, it was pretty worthless as a reputation system, but we found a fun use for it. As did whoever gave that 2000 point single rep, and the inversion of one of our member's rep during a glitch was kind of funny too.

we have thread rankings. i am pretty sure it is easy to bring up the threads in order of rating. all that is needed initially is for the FAQ's to be rated with 5 stars or maybe create a 6th star just for FAQs.

then if people were made more aware of the ratings then other useful threads would come up.

another way is to priotise using number of replies or number of views.

this is not a very hard thing to do i am sure. but i am not a programmer either but i am pretty sure that kind of thing is pretty basic.

FAQs are all in their own forum, just sort them at the top as the primary sort key and use the existing sort as the secondary.
Oh, and I am a programmer.
