    Ok, so i was looking around today thinking bout install remote start on my 08 SI, now i know there are things about installing on manual transmissions and such but i saw this today.

    DEI 689M Neutral Safety Module

    it came out in the US in like september? im not sure how it works or what not, but i really want remote start on my car because winters are very cold, and it will give the pc some time to boot up...

    any ideas?

    Ok, so i wanna get a remote start installed on my 08 SI, its manual and i know with manuals that if you leave in gear, well its not pretty.

    but i was reading about this DEI 689M Neutral Safety Module and i was wondering how it works and what exactly it does and is it safe now to install on manual?

        well i created the 1, and then i went looking for it and couldnt find it so i thought my Internet died or something and it didnt post, sorry i must have missread i thought i read it was anything that was mp3car related so i figured remote start is close to a carpc...

          If the remote start is specifically for a manual it'll be fine.
          Newer cars have gear position indicators on the tranny, even a manual. When you install the remote starter it will tie into this switch/device, and disable the remote starter if it sees that the car is in gear. Obviously it enables the remote start only if it is in neutral.

          BTW: I installed one on a truck I once had that did not have that indicator on the tranny. Yes, I left it in gear once, hit the remote start and (luckily) hit my daughters car in front. Had her car not been there it would've driven....who knows where...and killed who knows who. I learned my lesson on that one. DO NOT install a remote start unless it is designed specifically NOT to start if your car is in gear.

            Remote Start for manuals

            Hello, I'm a newbie to car pc topics, but remote starts I do know well. You guys are making remote starts for manuals WAY too complicated. About 5 years ago, I put a remote start on my manual 98 Integra GSR. I found the product on eBay for 60 bucks. Just search Ultrastart. Any product number with an M at the end means it's made for manuals. They have great support for new installers as well. After making all the required connections, you're good to go. (For the Integra, I didn't need any bypass module or added security bypass relay) Here's the beauty of it. As I am pulling into a parking spot, of course I had my foot on the brake to stop the car - step 1. Step 2 - pull the e-brake. Most of do these steps naturally so it's not a hassle. Step 3 - turn "off" of the car and take out the keys. The engine keeps running! You MUST be in neutral for this to work otherwise you simply can't get out of the car! Next - get out and as soon as the door closes the engine shuts off and your car is ready to be remote started. It's THAT simple. :-)

              Tooo complicated.
              I Posted this before, but here we go again. I installed it in my Supra almost 10 years ago and I am still using it.
              - Use e-brake ground wire as the remote module ground wire => If brake isn't engage, no ground to the module, it won't work and can't start.
              - Put a Normally Close (NC) lever switch or 2 by the shifter and link it to the e-brake wire above => If the shifter is on up position (1st gear), that set the switch and disconnect the above wire. No ground to the remote starter module, it won't work.
              - Use a relay to by pass the clutch safety switch. Normally, most remote module has output signal during start and running. Use it to connect/disconnect (depend on car) the clutch safety switch.

              That's all it take, no other procedure/step needed to use it other than push the button to start. With in the past 10 years, I have no problem with the above method.

                You must be joking! You think my method is too complicated, but your involves buying extra parts such as a NC lever switch (or 2) AND your adding a relay switch. ??? How can that possibly be any less complicated?? How much longer will it take to add this extra stuff?

                You take the ultrastart out of the box...you hook up the required wires. You're done. That's it. Not extra wiring...no extra purchases.

                I saw your original post. No need to post again, that's why I posted mine. ;-)

                  umm, I think matrix way is more simple, less steps and more fool proof.
                  your car won't start if you forgot it in 1st.

                    I just dont leave it in gear and dont let anyone else drive, problem solved =p

                    But on my next install in my new car, i'll be wiring up a neutral safety switch

                      DEI 689M Neutral Safety Module works great.

                      you can use it with any DEI remote starter, and its easy to hook up.

                        I did the same thing with magnetic switches. I figured there would be less chance for misalignment and broken pieces. A magnet on the both sides of the shift lever, under the boot. Two switches up front and two in the rear, the circuit needed all four swithces open and the ebrake on. The cool thing was, those switches also provided the logic I needed for a gear shift position indicator.
                        It's been a while...

                            And if I have to redo mine, I will use magnetic switch for sure. Maybe once day I feel like install on on the Matrix, the front wheel drive Matrix probably have better/different option than the RWD Supra.
                            Well, when I did mine, I know nothing about other type of switch beside relay, on-off toggle switch. A lever switch was some funky device that on a clearance box for 10 cents a piece at the local electronic store. And 20 cents for 2 switch with couple feet of wire, It's a fool proof system.

                              I used it to feed a low tech 8 segment dispay. That was some years ago, and that TT/RT Stealth has since ate itself racing a Ferrari on I215.

                              But he didn't know that, it happened like 5 minutes after he pulled off.
