  • Unusual, but awesomely practial shoes!!

About a year ago the wife and I were looking up more the BOA-Laced shoes, since we both have North Face variants, when we ran across something really neat: Vibram Five-Finger Shoes!

We were like WTF? Then we did more research, and noticed how practical these are, and we thought about getting some. Anyone have these? I've had mine for a little over a year, and had put them away due to them feeling a little small.

A year later I pull these shoes out of the closet to break them in for walking, due to all the research I've been doing that says that walking in regular shoes is not so good for the body. They still feel a little small, so I go to e-mail Vibram about when they would make a bigger size, and it looks like they updated their sizing chart:

I notice that in last year's chart, the size I bought (M47) was for a 12 inch foot. Looking at the new chart, M47 for the model of shoe I bought (Classic) is for 11 3/4th inches! Due to the fact that my Nikes have finally worn after 2 years of use, I need some new shoes, and it looks like I will be getting the KSO model in a size M47.

I just went for another walk in my old Classics, and I wasn't breathing hard at all like I would walking in normal shoes. I even did a short jog. I felt like I could have kept going, because the leg muscles that usually get tired weren't even affected. By walking the way we were meant to walk, I definitely felt a lot less stress on my legs, and exerted considerably less effort than usual. With the natural way of walking (Fox-Walking), I actually felt my hamstrings working more, due to me lifting my legs with those muscles. This type of walking looks a little funny as my wife pointed out, but when have I ever gave a damn what folks thought? More info on the benefits of Fox-Walking vs. Cow-Walking can be found here:

Hmmmm.... Interesting Never thought of it that way! But I did notice that I have a tendency to walk different when barefoot, just never thought about it being a different way of walking.

Barefoot? Oh, they'd smell so bad after a week.....especially if you wear them in the water or something......I wouldn't even be able to wear them to a friend's house.

Pretty sad that you're thinking that way right off the bat, Maheriano. Remind me to stay away from you...and your feet...

I think the idea of wearing them without socks would make me nervous. My feet would surely stink them up.

neet... but they wouldn't work for me as I have webbed toes. The two middle toes are all the way to the tip, but the rest are about halfway. Regular shoes for me I guess

People wear these all the time with "toe" socks. The recommended socks are called Injinji Socks.

I might pick up a set. But my sandals are already radioactive and should not be handled without proper breathing filters.

I was reminded of why I put the Classics in the closet last year, as they hurt my feet at work today. I had to go out and get the KSO's today. OMFGosh! They feel soooooo much better than the old Classics I bought last year. They have quite a bit more room, and fit perfectly!!

Looks like I'll be getting some Injinji Socks. REI sells them, and so does Vibram.

These shoes look weird...I doubt I would ever buy them unless I am mountain climbing or rafting.

Ive gotta a pair, i think they are the sprinter ones, they have one strap over the top of the foot. I love them. I went on a 70 mile canoe trip down the Buffalo river In Arkansas and i just about never took them off.

If you have the sprints, you'll love the KSO's.

I bought some Injinji toe socks today. What a perfect sock for these shoes.

Ive never seen the socks, i always go barefoot in mine. I typically have pretty stinky feet but i think i wear the vibrams in the water enough for the stench not to stick around. What is the deal with the KSO's? How are they different and when did they come out with them?
