  • Dude, where's my Visa?

Because I have no idea, but someone's having a whole lot of fun:

    Tin Lizzie Cafe: 33.39
Fred's: 147.03 (and that's fricken amazing. I didnt know Fred's HAD $150 worth of stuff)
FootGear: 226.66 (hmm, somebody's got a new pair of Jordan's)
    Wal-Mart: 98.25
    ----------------------------
    TOTAL: 505.33

I went to get some cigarettes today and my check card was no in my wallet. Got home, called the bank to tell them I had lost my card, found out about all these purchases--and there are probably some that have not posted yet, so I am looking at probably $1000 worth of charges (I only had $120 in the account, and my bank charges me $25 for every overdraft).

I get to wake up tomorrow morning and fill out an affadavit at the bank so I can get most (if not all) of my money back, then go to the Police and file a report with the Fraud division (and they LOVE to get those people here), and then go to class and take 2 tests.

    DAMMIT

Downside of credit cards - super-high interest charges.
Upside - you can't be held liable for theft.

Don't know how it goes with debit cards, but it sure is better than carrying cash. Good luck to you.
Screw the jerks who don't check the damn signature.

My signature on my card looks nothing like how I sign my name.

The way I sign my name at this point is a refined collection of quick loops, reducing my 16 letter name down to 5 quick strokes

Nobody has ever given me a hard time.. mostly because I use that damn card so often that the signature bar is worn off

According to the credit card companies, if you didn't sign for it, you are not liable for the charges. Simply dispute them. This is of course why it is so easy to screw online retailers....

just got back from filling out all the paperwork at the bank and the police station.

It's gonna take 6 weeks for the bank's security division to verify that I didnt make any of those purchases and refund my money.

The cops said that if they ever find the guy, they are throwing the book at him: Petit larceny (for the actual card), Fraud, False Pretense, and Check fraud (for using the card without my permission), and Grand Larceny (for walking out if the stores with merchandise that he had not legally paid for).

The merchants are actually the ones that will eventually foot the bill for this, so he screwed up when he went to WalMart--theyre gonna have his balls

Don't accept that. My debit card was stolen, and Fleet Bank gave me the stupid 1 month until we credit your money answer. I went down to a branch and complained so loudly they gave me the "preffered" customer service number. I called, and they refunded my money in less than a week.

That only works when your bank gives a crap. I bank at a large institution and they could care less if they lose one customer...jerks!

I think Fleet is like the #2 bank in the country. All you need to do is complain loud enough that the person you are talking to will do anything to get rid or you...

From my experience they just dont bother to check the signature.
Ive started sigining my slips totally differently to hte sig on the back of the card, and no one has mentioned it.
People dont want to offend the card holder, and they really dont care if it is fraud or not. Why would a cashier really care?!?

It's about time we had photos on the back of our cards. Plenty of other countries do it, so why not the UK.
The card companies are always going on about fraud yet are doing little to stop it.
A photo card with pin number to "sign for" is a much better solution, ffs its the 21 century!

Heh, back when I got one of my first credit cards, I called in and activated it, but forgot to sign the back. So after using it a few times, someone actually looked at the back (at a best buy I believe) and pointed out that it wasnt signed on the back, handed it to me, I signed the back of the card standing at the counter, and handed it back. Theres some good security

A friend of mine doesn't sign the card. He instead prints "Please ask for license."

In Sweden some shops doesnt even ask for a signature, some asks for license and takes the birth-code, but no one has ever checked the signature on the back of my visa...

At some places you get to enter your pin-code as at the atm-machines, thats pretty good too.
